i use a windows phone. lumia 635, windows 10 upgraded from 8 last year. I like it because i can only text, call and get email. There are no other apps for anything else, so I dont spend 95% of my time staring at a phone screen while walking down the street or eating or sleeping.
You can only? LOL, the phone can still do a lot more than that - even if that lot more is just surfing the web. There are a lot of games, and FB and snapchat, etc.

I've made video calls to friends in the UK, but other than just messing around I've never used locally just for day to day conversations. I don't see the appeal I guess.
I talk to my sibilings and my nephew this way all the time. As a team we do Skype Video calls often as well (remember we live all over the world so gives us a sense of togetherness).
Yeah, if you're not in the same city it definitely makes more sense to use - so I can understand Nader's comment about when they are not both home at night. I was reading more into it - you're at work, the wife calls, but instead of calling via normal voice, she calls with video chat - that just seems weird. I consider that more intrusive than @scottalanmiller just getting a phone call.

They just announced that they're killing support for an old version of the OS that 2.5 years old. This is equivalent to Google killing support for KitKat or Apple dropping support for iOS 7.

Actually support or no support from Google for KitKat is pretty pointless since the carriers sure the hell aren't porting those updates out to devices.
Is Apple still releasing updates to iOS 7 instead of telling users, you want updates, you must upgrade, which BTW is free.

Well, I suppose there are some other apps, but I have no facebook. There are some of the old FF games available so maybe I get those, but there isn't even a banking app from anybody except Wells Fargo(at least not earlier this year when I checked), and due to recent revelations ill never do business with them.
Really cant complain, I paid 50 bucks for the phone and my service is only 30/month for unlimited text and talk with 2GB. -

Kind of. However both of those have had new OS versions since then. This is the only OS that Microsoft has for the phones. To go along with what you said, it would be more like dropping support for WP7.

Until recently, the MS phones suffered the same issues as all but the iPhone, lack of carrier post sales support. So talking about the manufacturer dropping support just makes me laugh.

To make me laugh even harder - the google phones, i.e. Nexus line, having the moniker that you'll always get updates from google - well those days are over, or rather never existed for the Pixel.
I read a release that the Verizon version of the Pixel (there never was a version version of the Nexus as I understand it) will get it's updates from Verizon, not Google direct - so those poor saps will be once again (or rather still) beholden to Verizon to provide updates. yeah good luck there!
Way to go Google, flex those muscles. LOL

What do you mean no Verizon version? They were unlocked phones there is no carrier version. Just like unlocked iPhones they work on all carriers GSM or CDMA.

I was specifically talking about US carriers the Iphone 6, 6s etc all work with US GSM and CDMA carriers.

Works with is true. But I'm pretty sure that most of those phones only support a narrow subset of the CDMA frequencies (same might go for the GSM frequencies).
The adoption of LTE, which as I understand it use a universal set of frequencies, but I might be completely wrong, is what allows the phones to roam more freely today than in the past. But if you're in an area that doesn't have LTE, you might be stuck without service because of lack of frequency support.

Ah I didn't realize they actually pushed that out to some phones. I thought it was just a couple phones and then it died.
There haven't been a lot of new phones that have been released that come with it natively, but many of the later 8.1 Nokia handsets can, and do.
