So check this out, a 2018 passport says for the hotline to get immunization information for the CDC to dial (877) 347-8747. But that's a scam phone number. It is totally fake and goes to some sales line trying to collect your information for some prize. How does a US Passport get printed with fake phone numbers in it? This is crazy.

Presumably it once was a good phone number and may have not gotten 'renewed'.

Although if it ever was valid, why doesn't it bring up any SEO results?

@CCWTech It says it's for ADT security once you actually get a live person.

Oddly enough they refused to help with my questions about vaccinations required.

Did you tell them that it is listed in your passport?

@scottalanmiller Yeah, he wasn't helpful at all. Wanted to know if I wanted to buy a home security system.

And this is what you get for buying a "passport" for $10 from the guy on the corner with the beady eyes and a skullet...

@scottalanmiller a changed phone number is not a scam. Bad government control of resources? Certainly.

Passports are valid for 10 years (adult), so the government should plan a 10 year cycle to change a phone number.

Even those less than a year, though! And there is no record anywhere of that having been a CDC number. Try Googling it!

Printing one without doing so would constitute negligence at best, one could say that's a scam. Printing something official for a duration without any attempt to do anything about it, not posting information about it, and not responding to queries about it... hard to excuse as anything but a scam.

And it goes to a phone number that is clearly harvesting information without saying who they are. The resulting IVR makes no sense if it were a legit business. It's someone harvesting information knowing that they are getting calls solely from people calling for the official government hotline.

Well if I knew this number was in the passport, I would likely have tried to acquire it too. In order to resell it to a scammer for a profit.

No more - I would expect the government to use eminent domain to demand it turned over to them.. but surprisingly, they haven't even don that..

That's the biggest issue - I'm sure it's been reported.. but whoever received the reports didn't know what to do with the information.
