It is a fun show...a lot of old gospel music that is played live, on-stage by the actors...don't have to be a fan of the music to have a good time...just a funny, honest show about simple times in the late 30s...with scandal at the end of Act I...dancing in the church and the "S-Word"...LOL

I don't have centOS running, and we don't have an internal Exchange - but I am curious to see if this will link into Office 365.

To set this up with Office 365, you have two choices.

Configure Postfix to send as an authenticated user. And then give that user send as rights to all accounts that will use the mail relay.

White list the public IP address that your mail relay is on in your office 365 to allow unauthenticated email to be sent through it.

Great article - covers all the bases. Separating the pricing from the model is key too. The only benefit I can still see to ownership is that you can eek out more time on old software if the business is going through lean times, whereas in the subscription model you'd get cut off. Similar to owning an old car and keeping it running with duct tape and baling wire.

Where did you get your numbers from? The manufactures websites?

Most manufacturers post those numbers. You then combine them with the real world prices to see what the price per page works out to be, roughly. It is always a bit of a guessing game, though.

I finally read this article today and found it to be a very good one. I'm definitely a generalist. It seems every time I attend a VMUG event I wonder what it would be like to specialize in just VMWare, just backup and recovery, etc. As a generalist, I get frustrated that I cannot spend more time in certain areas that need attention, and I have so many different interests in terms of something in which I could potentially specialize it becomes difficult to choose just one.

But then I get the fear...what if I pidgeonhole myself? What if the specialized field doesn't have enough variety? What if that's a mistake? As you mention in your article, the more specialized you get, the more difficult it would be to go back to being a generalist.

I think Master Yoda said it best - "Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny...."

I'm not trying to stir the pot here, but even though I'm 24... I really don't want to work with overly-ambitious FOB kids, or older crotchety folks either. I think age may be a discriminant for some companies, but I'd rather not work at those places regardless in all honesty.

I enjoy working around down to earth, communicative, bright individuals regardless of age... that keep work/home separate but can also grab a brew after the work's done. Luckily I hate managing so that'll never be my problem. 😛

@ajstringham I think CB is right. If you are a Chevy you are a car, but not all cars are Chevys.

If you are passionate you likely will work hard. But you may work hard and not be passionate. Lots of people hate what they do but feel compelled to work hard.

I took it the opposite way. I though the meant you can be passionate and not work hard. I would say that is not true. But what you said is true.
