Right, its even more granular. You can go back versions to individual document components.

Because, if you're like me, it's definitely worth having the UPSs, but it's not worth it to install generators. Yes, shutting down is always a viable option. You just need to make sure you have failover UPS that are properly monitored and maintained.

@scottalanmiller I'll have to try it on my VM when I get a chance to restart my computer...Oracle Vbox is being annoying, machines won't start except for right after a reboot of the host OS. Haven't figured out where the issue is yet.

No different than the Verizon Netflix issues.

Definitely better, but I've not used it first hand to say. Worth a try, though. Base + MariaDB or even Base + SQLite.

That's only an artifact of SMBs on Windows. I've worked with tons of SMBs on Linux and never see update issues outside of old consultants trying to screw them by creating artificial migration needs. It takes effort to have these problems in the Linux world. Just being lazy, you are pretty likely to stay patched.

Ended up revising my approach to the whole configuration. I bought an SM951 128GB for the caching device and grabbed a pair of seagate 2TB drives and put them in an md raid 10. Random 4k inside one of the VMs averages between 12,000 and 20,000 write depending on queue depth. This seems low given that the SM951 is rated really high, can bcache be tuned to increase the dirty cache for random io?

I did manage to find a setting for sequential which pushed it up to 1GB/s.

Encryption has more or less always been allowed - it's only through the ease of use that now they are pushing to make it go away.

To add fuel to the fire (though it might have been mentioned already below)

It simplifies the transition between models and makes of laptop. I like to "generic windows-ify" all my installs so that you use all the MS stuff to manage wifi etc. Then the only transitions you need to coach users on is to new windows versions.

I have an old (6+) C2D Lappy with Xubuntu.
It plays Worms quite well. Not sure what else I've tried as I only really use it when I go wandering away from home for a night or more.

Kickstart is how big companies did it in the pre-virtualization era.

For me thought the question is how drivers from Microsoft differs from the original vendor’s drivers.

As far as I know, the driver needs to be certified at MS end to reach the MS shop, so at some point the freshest driver can be obtained from the vendor directly…
