I have to confess, I don't do any of the things listed in @scottalanmiller 's article. I'm a reasonable pro at work but a hopeless amateur at home.

I know it's still useful for Linux, but really - is that enough reason to go forward with this audit?

Perhaps? Perhaps not? If someone's still paying the auditor, I'm sure they'll keep on auditing.

The audit is very important. TC remains a very viable product. Moreso than ever having weathered this storm.

I exported a list by querying the information_schema. I know there are other ways I could do this:

Export the table and use replace function in the file. Then recreate the table Code the logic in PHP and make the changes via loop

Part of this is curiosity/learning, part of it is wanting to be able to make these changes quickly, part is for future use since this comes up sometimes if the DB columns were not named properly initially. Ideally, I would like this to be all contained within one .sql file that can be ran automatically during deployment.

This reminds me if things from some if those old Computer Chronicles shows. People had this decades ago and they have up, not because it didn't work but because it is such a bad idea. Slow, inaccurate and embarrassing.

Any issues migrating a VM from a G8 server to a G6 (and vice versa). I recall there can be issues when running different CPUs, although am I right in think that this only effects vMotion? We don't have vMotion, and so shut down the VMs and start them up on the new host.

As long as you are migrating cold you can move from an HP Intel box to a SuperMicro AMD box and it won't care. Only hot migrations are an issue.

I will, however, see if the desktop will connect to my iphone hotspot.

it is a good start to make sure that your desktop is ok, but i prefer to change totally the gateway, (if you can create a hotspot by using 4G for example not by your AP wifi), or the wifi of your neighbour

I think your stance makes sense Scott. Always better to take the high road if possible, and any necessary ranting can always be taken offline somewhere 🙂

I think if we just have the policy, it mostly fixes the issue. Lacking it it actually makes ML feel like the official "place to go rant" which it is not.

I'm not sure why we haven't switched to IPv6 sooner, sure its a little more complex in terms of proper notation and subnetting, but its more secure as a whole, and offers much greater scalability.

Because it isn't available. Almost no ISP gives you an IPv6 address. If we had good access to IPv6 for all of our home users we would switch.

We've been using IPv6 on our Pertino network for a while.

I was referring to the collective sense of the word "we" which incorporated ISP's
