I like some aspects of FB, but I hate how they really don't want you to have any control... they want you to do it their way. I guess I should just give up, because this is how most of the world is today. Ug somedays!

We have an open office, but it is filled with only IT people. I love it, it is nice to be able to have a conversation without leaving your desk.

Wow thanks for the news. I wish soon that would be also free here in Philippines. Would love to help them to set up so that i can learn too 🙂

Only a few large countries have it so far. Only the biggest economies justify the effort on Microsoft's part, unfortunately.

It is all about the tax write offs. Yeah they have lots of ways to donate and write things off, but this is the feel good method.

They only donate the starter level. The goal is really to get people addicted and have them upgrade. Problem is, too few do so it causes problems. I don't believe that they get any kind of write off for that, though, it is an all out marketing loss leader and as it is a service cannot normally be taken advantage of in a tax sense, at least not in the US.

To me, it sounded more like the printer was using inkjet tech to color the base pellets used for the 3D printing before being printed out.

Could be. Although if the heads don't move and "print" it's just a chemical mixer. You can have a black and white printer, in fact they started off that way. Color does not define a printer. But making designs does. A printer creates designs.... pouring ink from one bucket into another is not printing.

I also thought about the Outlook plugin allowing the end users to parse the archive, maybe you could export to PST and just writeup how to do it and have the minions perform your backup?

If it can present as a folder in Outlook, it could be copied to PST.

That's great that MS has EMET, but the reality is that it breaks as much as it fixes, maybe more. Maybe in another 10 years when programmers have been a bit more forced to create better, more security minded code we'll have an easier time running things like EMET.

Just signed up, on the admin section it is asking me to choose which package I want. (hosted)

    $0 Standard
    $24 Professional
    $54 Enterprise.

Surely it would have been fixed by now?

I am used to Spiceworks, this looks rather clunky.

Will need to have a play with the SW.

    Looks clunky but works solidly.

I think you get people like this in every field.

    I've seen it in Insurance/Medical/Travel.

Depends on the person, you will notice that they normally generally have issues, doesn't matter if it's authority/ranking/what ever. 🙂

I still classify myself as an IT newbie, been doing it professionally for 11 years.

Sometimes, you do get these arrogant little so and so's, but they might be excellent at some certain skills, which you might not be.

It's about guiding people accordingly and making the most out of who they are, kindly educating them that there are certain elements about them that can't continue.

Sometimes, there are also these people that you go out your way to really help, support them, sometimes without them realising, ensuring they get looked after. Then they think they are god knows what, throw it back in your face and in some kind of fashion aren't faithful/are backstabbers, so watch out for those 😉

    Nevertheless, best of luck 😉

I'm not sure how many computers you have out there, but have you considered SCCM? It'll deploy your base image and do all the rest for you. You can go from bare metal to ready-to roll in a couple of clicks.

I have considered that and FOG. Our probably is we have a bunch of small local branch locations connected by a T1 line. If I were to image over the network, it would kill the branch completely.

I would also recommend taking a look at out Community Forums since they contain tons of useful information, real-world examples, undocumented and creative workarounds, etc.

I hate to say it.. but if time is an issue, and there is nothing else on this server (which it sounds like since you can reboot it 20 times a day) why not just build another VM and scrap this one? If you want to save it for later and try to trouble shoot it when you have nothing better to do.. Ok do that. 🙂

Whew...would hate to have to do this...it is already sharing duties with the soon to be demoted old domain controller...I can't imagine what would cause this problem since I keep this machine very clean.

The upside is that you can have effectively unlimited domain controllers all "sharing duties." Adding another one isn't a problem.

Most of the board meetings they have here everyone wants a copy to read, rather than listen to. So either way it would have to either be hand written out (hand cramps anyone) or typed out.

If it is only board meetings, $1/minute isn't bad. If it is regular company meetings, it would seem that it is.

@Dashrender - yeah we got rid of everything associated with the profile, we also used a different login username as her name had changed & needed to be done soon anyway. So we treated this new profile like a brand spanking new user.

The Fluke website said it included the first 100 ports scanned, after that you could buy in blocks of 100 or 1000 for penny's per port.

The wall port number, most offices I've worked in label the wall port. Very helpful to specifying what connection you were actually connected to.
