Google Chromebooks are now the most popular devices in American schools. Google has managed to supplant Apple as the dominant technology in the classroom.

I have never understood why macs were so popular for school computer labs etc. Glad to see Chromebooks becoming a "mainstream" choice in the place where they make the most sense IMO... should make them easier for IT departments to pitch if "everyone else is doing it".

Marketing. Apple went nuts marketing to schools and schools are suckers for marketing over substance. It paid off. Schools rarely focus on lowering cost or on results, so selling them things that were too expensive and did not help the students didn't cause problems by and large.

I am not surprised, Chromebooks are so cheap, stateless and easy to use. I can only imagine that it would be pretty tough for a school to really want to do anything else.
