This is why I never buy knock off lightning chargers for my iOS devices.

It is something new to the basic USB world.

I buy Apple MFi Certified third party cables, anything wrong with them?

As long as they're certified they should be fine from what I understand...

The question is - does Amazon verify that it's really a certified part?

You can say your certified all day long on ebay, they don't care, and you could end up burned..

Just because a company pays for certification does not mean they have quality equipment.

but surely if it was sub-par they'd refuse to certify it?

Certification happens long before mass production.

Pretty much has to be that way. No reasonable way to have a company monitoring the quality of cables for every cable maker. Would cost a fortune.

Anker makes great products. Their batteries and cables are better than Samsung OEM batteries and cables IMO. I am sure their Apple stuff is quality, too.

I use Anker batteries for my GoPro cameras as well. They are better than OEM and last longer.

Exactly. You also are not buying them for $5 at the gas station.

This is the point of the thread and my point about USB-C. As a port type that does way more then USB has done in the past it is comparable to what apple did with lightning.

The was not for some stupid comparison of iOS compatible products.

So it's a bad idea to buy 1000 lighting cables for 1 cent on eBay?

If you ever need high quality cables that just work right every time:

http://www.bluejeanscable.co.uk/ (american .com site seems to be down, IDK why)

If you need bulk or cheap cable that usually works alright:

                                    http://www.linhawstore.com/
