Looking to purchase 2 tablets for the kids. Ages are 5 and 8. Must have the Play Store. NOT the Amazon store where you cant even get the Chrome Cast app. Don't want to pay more than $70. Suggestions?

I've always likes ASUS for tables but don't think you'll get them cheap new.

Best go to into a store and play with a few of the cheap ones - around $60-100 they range in speed from decent to hot garbage. Price will not usually be the indicating factor.

Can you wait until all the Black Friday sales start in earnest? Tablets are always a big discount item.

Actually the Amazon Fire devices have great hardware for the price, and they can be rooted easily enough and replaced with CyanogenMod + Play store. Just sayin 😉

@crustachio What guide did you follow to root the Fire? My wife has a Fire and I could not get it rooted?

@alex.olynyk I can't remember specifically. I know there are differences depending on which model Fire you have. I have the plain jane, bargain basement one, it was like $30 last year on Black Friday. I think it's just called the Kindle Fire, not the HD. Anyway, I used instructions from XDA forums. Wasn't too bad. The Fire HD's could be completely different beasts.

We have that too, four of them in fact. They were $35 I think. $50 is full price.
