Although the unlimited data coverage is a nice thing, it has restrictions, such as you're unable to use your phone as a hotspot. Although travelers will be able to get the same data coverage while overseas for only $10/day rather than the average $25/100Mb of data previously.

Which means you can't work on your laptop or other devices without additional fees.

Yeah, AT&T did the same thing. They tried to get my friend to sign up for that - of course the pusher - err. .I mean sales person couldn't see that something like 30% of his data usage was tethering...

I don't know of anyone that does unlimited without restricting it to the device. Would be a bit crazy as it would be a free-for-all.

With having my IPad Pro on my account this is awesome. I don't need to tether for any reason. So unlimited makes my life much easier

Well, if adding a SIM enabled laptop was only say $30/month to add to the account, that might be worth while - MIGHT be worth while.

The classic unlimited data plans from Verizon were just this. I had a plan and gave it up for reasons I'm not willing to discuss. But I could use the data and device for everything I wanted at no additional cost.

Yeah, the plan allows up to 4 devices (if I understand it) at $45 per additional line or $180 a month.

So adding a iPad to the plan at $45/month would make some sense.

@DustinB3403 Actually, I believe you get 10GB / line of hotspot usage.

Yeah. The only one I know of that actively encourages tethering is Ting, who charge by what you use, so they make more money by getting you to use more data.

Is that true? I would like unlimited, but certainly not if the tradeoff is that I can't tether. Tethering to my laptop is critical in some scenarios.

T-mobile's current plan is unlimited and 10gb for tethering.

The fine print at the bottom of that add:

Qual’g plan req’d. On all T-Mobile plans, if congested, top 3% of data users (>28GB/mo.) may notice reduced speeds due to prioritization. Sales tax & regulatory fees included in mo. service price. No cost HD feature US only. After 10GB, tethering at max 3G speeds. See more

Here's a good site that sums it all up.

I've been debating on leaving Sprint and going to T-Mobile. I only use 6 GB/month of data on my phone alone, max. 10 GB of data for a laptop wouldn't be a problem at all for me to manage.

Also, @JaredBusch, do you get some kind of kickback for referring others to T-Mobile? Such as a code or something?

Never looked if they have a referral program or not.

                                Just googled it, they do.

I've been using Tmo for years and they've been fantastic. Ever since LeGere started working for them, as the CEO, things have improved a great deal. He's actively poking the bear and riling up all the other carriers.

I wish I knew about the referral program! Sad panda.

I went with the 4 lines for $180. Going to get an additional 15% once I submit my DD214. I'm saving money on this deal, so I'm happy.
