Might be the easiest, most obvious task that there is in the whole of IT. What the heck CAN he do?

I'm not going to go on another rant about the DMCA but how does Plex Cloud work legally? Seems pretty crazy to me if they are just relying on the old non-drm content technicality

        https://www.plex.tv/blog/book-plex-volume-3-plex-cloud/

I have a beta key if anyone wants me to test it.

That link takes you to an article that only talks about linking cloud storage of your stuff to plex.

But to answer the question you are trying to ask.

It is likely no different than certain add ons to Kodi. It is not Kodi providing the questionable sources.

Isn't over 90% of content protected by DRM? How do you legally watch movies on Plex locally (without subscribing to a streaming service)? I get that they aren't supplying the content, but who are they marketing to?

Most of the world is not affected by US DRM laws.

Nobody in the US has been prosecuted for removing DRM from DVDs and BluRays because they actually don't want a court challenge on DMCA law.

I have a decent variety of legally obtained content on my system. I use a Kodi SMB plug in to play it on my FireTV Stick.

Plex is legally marketing to me. I could pay them for their service and get near instant access to my stuff anywhere once I move it to a hosted drive. Compared to streaming it from my local internet connection.

In reality, they are marketing to all the people like @thanksajdotcom that have downloaded tons of legally questionable media.

Not true at all, we get your DRM'd junk here because there's no money in making one that suits our less restrictive laws

But the DRM doesn't affect you. Just rip and use, you own the content. DRM primarily relies on laws that take away your right to use or own what you buy. It's not technology, it's legalities and corruption that make it possible.

DRM does not affect us - just do things that you wouldn't need to do if DRM wasn't present?

                      😛

How about the insanity of HDCP on HDMI?

That was my question as well. This customer site hates their MSP, doesn't like to call them at all, so we get technical questions. I now see that they are incompetent as well as hard to work with.

The two generally go hand in hand.
