T-Mobile Buys Large Piece of 600MHz Spectrum in the US from Federal Spectrum Auction

T-Mobile makes a nearly $8bn USD play for broad coverage enhancements in the US in the newly opened 600MHz spectrum range that is expected to dramatically increase its coverage capacity, especially in rural areas, according to news outlet Ars Technica.
"With this purchase, T-Mobile now has significantly more low-band spectrum per customer than any other major provider and nearly triple the low-band spectrum per customer than Verizon," T-Mobile said.
This map shows the new coverage purchased at auction and does not reflect the existing coverage area already in place.

You can say that about most of the providers except Verzion up there.

Just for the end of the year, their new spectrum covers the entire country. They are just racing to build towers and put up new towers.

My dad's would totally cut out on the north side of town. My TMobile kept working.

One of the reasons I have kept (and for at least a couple more years) will stick with Verizon, despite the premium, is that the phones work everywhere I go regularly.
John LeGere did touch on the fact that most phones that run on LTE are not compatible with the spectrum that they just bought. When I saw the sections they got, my first thought was that LTE was run on a completely different band. Seems I was right about that.
I've had my eyes on T-Mobile for a while. Looks like I'll be keeping a closer watch for the next year or two.

LTE is a signaling scheme, it has no tie to a band. The issue is the radios in current phones don't talk to that band. This is the case with all new band auctions, they are only useful once new radios are available.

I've been using tmobile family plan for almost 5 years now. Never any issues until I go to the deserts, which nothing works then not just tmobile.

LTE is just a specific type of 3G signaling, AFAIK.

Yeah, looked it up. No bands. It's just the most advanced 3G signaling method.
