I can safely say that on My Laptop at home with 2 windows and / 8 tabs per window, Firefox Quantum definitely does not use less RAM than Chrome. It is, however, far more stable than previous releases have been. I'd estimate close to Chrome stability.

I'm liking what I see with Firefox Quantum so far. I don't use it nearly so heavily as Chrome tho, so I can't really compare too well.

I think I'll just be sticking with Chromium at for now. I'll wait a few FAQ revs.

Does Chromium run better on Linux than Chrome?

              It's lighter, fewer plugins.

At least with Fedora, hte default Chromium version is the developer build. Probably the only way for Linux users to keep their browser up to date.

Chromium runs best on the Fedora-based distros that I've been using recently... Fedora 25/26/27, Korora 25/26, CentOS 7. Chrome runs well too, I used that previously, but now I use Chromium where I can.

                      I use FF -> Chromium -> Chrome

I like the light nature of Chromium and not being able to use things I don't want like Flash.

I tend to switch completely until I decide if I want to stick with it or not. The RAM usage fluctuates wildly. It seems to go up when my computer is asleep or I'm not actively using the browser.

That was the first thing that made me go to Chromium on Linux, other than the other odd issues.

I think that's where I first noticed it... I found the fix that JB is probably talking about, but I didn't feel like dealing that that.
I didn't give it a chance on other GUIs, so it may not be an issue on Gnome and others.

It affects any GTK dark theme.

It is a known issue with Firefox and dark GTK themes on Linux.
A 17 year old bug report in fact.
                                    https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=70315

You can teak a setting manaully.

                                    Or use an add on.

Turns out that was a runaway tab that I had left open. Killed the tab, and all was well.

                                          I prefer Firefox because

                                          • Firefox still lets me see SSL certs from the address bar.
                                          • Firefox lets me decide is I want to be able to execute jnlp files or not.

The add on works for me this time around.

I tried that addon a few months ago and it didn't work. Editing the .css file is what did it.

                                            So now it's the opposite?

I never tried it last time. Did not see it. So I edited the .css. This time I tried the plugin and it works for ML. Have not been on other sites yet.
