I've got a small company I support (5 Phones), and they are currently running on a 1985 AT&T Merlin system. The phone bill is obnoxious ($600+).

A week or so ago I posted thinking about hosting a pbx myself for them, but after feedback from the forum decided not worth the time or costs involved.

Since then I've talked to several vendors... The big ones like Ring Central and 8x8. They seem very much the same per seat and add-on fee wise.

Then I was suggested a company called Net2Phone. I've never heard of them but they seem to be less expensive and fewer add-on fees. Has anyone any experience with them?

      Thanks.

PS: I posted this elsewhere, but deleted.

First, I would definitely not go with your own FreePBX system (or 3CX or any other). The cost may be lower monthly just for the services, but once you add you time to update and maintain the system, it simply is not worth it.

With only 5 phone stick with the hosted solutions like Ring Central and 8x8.

I have never personally used Net2Phone. I have heard the typical mixed reviews about them just I have heard about Ring Central and 8x8. So I would assume from that type of response that they are most likely a decent service.

I see the same with all the services out there. I am skeptical of them, because I don't know if they are really service issue or just network issues causing trouble. Non-technical folks setting up the service.

Correct. Of the networks I have dealt with using Ring central, there have been very few issues once all the networking issues were sorted. I've never had 8x8 in production, only tested, but I would except similar results.

Yeah, at that size, just not worth that. Unless you are doing it for your own educational reasons, then have at it, of course.

That is the case, yes. Nearly everyone in that space has more features than small customers will ever want or use, and they basically have to keep their prices nearly identical. You won't find much variance.

They spam me once a week or so. Never used them, but they were one of the oldest VoIP consumer companies back in the "get a CD in the magazine" days. Probably find to use. Was not aware that they did a hosted VoIP business solution, but not surprised, all the consumer companies moved to adding that eventually.

Reviews are totally sketchy. There are so many factors. And reviews might be from IT people, or from scammers, or from business people who are actually meaning to review their own IT rather than the service, etc. There's little good way to know from a review if the review is legit at all.

I've got customers on RC and they have been happy. It's the way I'd lean.

I used CommQuotes for this recommendation. They based it on my requirements this is one of the vendors they suggested. Just not familiar with N2P.

I saw the CommQuotes logo flashing in the sky - someone needs help with a Cloud PBX Solution!

Yeah we work with net2phone quite a bit, know the ownership there and have a lot of experience. They are sometimes a good fit, sometimes not. IDT is the parent company (Billion dollar international telecom) but the N2P group is relatively small compared to the marketplace of 8x8, Ring, Vonage etc. Net2Phone has some huge upsides for cost (call path pricing for larger deployments), unlimited dialing to many countries as well as traditionally a good support system (at least for our clients) since they are a smaller group that tries a bit harder.

Net2Phone is very limited as far as features in the UCaaS and Collaboration space, however that should change in a few months when they roll out their new platform. Have had some outages in recent times that have put some eyes on them, however those issues have been solved to our satisfaction (we talk directly to CLevel about operations and other issues).

But I would say - lots of options and for 5 seats your pricing will be about the same so will come down to what ya need. So what say you? What ya need in a the new phone system?

Right now they have an 800 number, local number, and two fax lines.

Calls come in to a ring group and buzz a couple phones. I don't even think an auto attendant is required. I'm more trying to save money on the bill vs features.

Just noticed that OP is working with us already! I am not sure who is handling the relationship but there must be a good reason to go N2P... our team is pretty good about understanding needs and positioning good solutions. Feel free to message me if you want another opinion

Yup, it's a good solution for sure. Nothing is perfect, but as long as you have CommQuotes by your side, you will have someone there to help you if you need it. We have clients with a few phones to hundreds of seats, as well as call centers that push millions of minutes per month over their network.

You are in good hands and I think you are going to save so much money that you will be hoisted up on to a chariot and whisked away to the kingdom that awaits you as King of Phones at your company
