I suppose if I target the desktop/documents folder recursively I could handle the bulk of the issues.

Still doesn't address the need of where do I store all of the sync'd data. . .

Backblaze plus a little user training?

While I agree Backblaze would be a good option, the issue lies in that this is just a way to provide a safety net if someone is out sick.

Not if they screw up so much, and even in the event of "out sick" if the system is here myself or coworker can get onto the system and pull files off easily enough.

User training is a bit of a joke, as my users here think that "if I'm using the terminal I'm doing it wrong". . . so yeah. . .

Also oddly, at least one of my users has an idea of what VDI is, but doesn't understand that a file server can support more than 7 users at a time all working from it at the same time.

I'm kind of at a loss on what to do.

Trying to fight the urge to call an onsite tech and scream "That's not how any of this works!"

Legit convo with an on-site at a company that a client acquired

Me: I'm getting a 2 Factor prompt trying to access this account

Tech: Just enter your phone number

Me: Screen cap showing 2 Factor is sending Auth Code to a number ending in 81

Tech: Just enter your cell # and it will text you

Me: Screen cap with highlights. This is the cell # that is receiving the Auth code. You can't just enter any number, that's not how 2 factor works.

Tech: Oooooohhhhh........ Here's the auth code.

I'm thinking about a way to placate a few of my users who are paranoid about loosing working files from their local systems and am considering setting up rsync with ssh keys to grab files from specific locations on the user workstations. . .

But where to sync the data too and lastly I can't possibly account for every scenario that the user will do (save into. . .)

                Schedule rsync to backup?

Add a context menu that allows them to manually rsync there files?

Lots of cleaning to do. Sister in law and her kids are coming here tomorrow for the weekend. It is my daughter's birthday party weekend.

/sigh Surprise! Watching new applications fail to install on old servers that won't be upgraded or patched because of $reasons which are beyond my control.

No point in wasting your time on it.

                    Don't have a choice. Well, I guess I do -- find a new job 😛

Speaking of which, I just got home from an interview that went very well today.

Thanks. Would be a big step up in money, and I like the IT team there. Here's hoping!

                              Updating a few Nimble Arrays

They're on version 2.X and the current is 5.1.........

The issue became apparent when controller health started checking the health of controllers every 30 seconds...

I already had to hard reset a VM this morning for another client because of that. 2 hours to apply a cumulative update wasn't working.

It's going to be one of those days......
