Delays on servers from Dell

Has anyone ordered a server direct from Dell recently? I placed an order last week (11/21) and couldn't help but notice that the expected delivery date is January 15, 2020. I had ordered a T440 system with pretty standard specs. In the past my Dell orders used to ship about a week after ordering and I would receive the server about 3 days after shipping. Does this have anything to do with the Intel shortage or is that just the desktops?

It can be both. But most likely the Drives, check with Dell if changing the configuration will work to make it a faster delivery.

I think it's an issue with Intel. Do they have Intel CPUs?
Same thing with Lenovo atm, they said there are (I think) Intel CPU shortages.

He meant that the extra configuration time for the drivers would cause the delays, not a shortage on drivers...

We've been having this issue with HPE this past month. Two month delays on servers!

I ordered a T440 direct from Dell in April 2019 and had it in 3 days. I realize that wasn't exactly recent but....

It has been for both CPU and SSD Drives in my case.

In the UK i've waited over one month for 2 x laptops recently. One with UK keyboard, one Arabic. After all that time... both were Arabic! So yes, they are having some issues!

I talked to my rep today and he confirmed the CPU was the item holding everything up. I asked if there was a different CPU option that would speed things up. He said regardless it would be a minimum 10 days before it would ship. I cancelled and ordered a refurb.

I wonder why Dell is so committed to only using Intel when there are major supply chain issues? AMD has some great options and I've not seen delays from AMD parts.

Dell have plenty of AMD servers too. R7515, R6515 are their new 1 CPU EPYC Rome (2nd gen) models and R7525, R6525 their two CPU models. Then they have some other model in the C-range. And their older 1st gen EPYC servers.
With the prices and performance of AMD EPYCs you have to have a really good reason not to go AMD at this point.

oh, I didn't realize that they had started adding them to their lineup again.

@krisleslie - Was that a Dell order or HP?
We ended up ordering refurbs and have already installed them.
