Depends on the download rule you setup. You can set it up to automatically download when available, or only after you approve it.

Is Google meets the same thing or rebranded / mashed together?

Google Meets is also a dead product. It's all merged into Google Hangouts (which includes meeting, screenshare, calling, chat etc).

Oh, yeah, hangouts... the meeting URLs still start with meet.google.com. I was thinking of that.

yeah - Google keep saying they are killing it - but then they just keep forgetting to do it.
