Microsoft Edge will now warn users about the dangers of downloading Google Chrome

Pop-ups range from straightforward to cheeky. One calls Chrome "so 2008."

Microsoft Edge will now warn users about the dangers of downloading Google Chrome

I like Microsoft Edge. But if it doesn’t get less annoying, I’ll switch again
If you're a Google Chrome user setting up a new Windows PC, the most important feature of Microsoft Edge is the ability to download Chrome. Microsoft is apparently aware of this behavior and is doing something about it: Neowin has spotted new Edge pop-ups that specifically try to dissuade users from downloading and installing Chrome, a change that I promise I didn't know about when I wrote about Microsoft's annoying promotion of Microsoft Edge literally yesterday.

I rather like and applaud this quote from an article just two days ago:

'''And the incessant reminders to switch to Edge and to use Bing, even when you are already choosing to use Edge in the first place, signals a fundamental lack of respect for the user's preferences and their ability to make their own decisions.'''

I like Microsoft Edge. But if it doesn’t get less annoying, I’ll switch again

Just go to ninite.com and download the chrome installer. Or, if you are me, go to the shared folder where that installer lives, no Edge use required.

              @rojoloco

Saved the choco installer and then install everything including Chrome from there… haven’t used ninite in years.

Will have to see what happens on my next few machines I set up.
                Not seeing this yet.

I would rather use every other browser before Google Chrome.

Had that thought as well when I read the OP. If true, it is pretty ballsy when your browser is based on the Chromium platform.

I find that all of the browsers are annoying in their own way. So I just bounce between them when I get annoyed with Edge, I switch to Chrome... When I get annoyed with Chrome, I switch to Firefox (Vivaldi, Brave, and the others).... etc, etc, ad nauseum on my PC. On my mobiles, I tend to stick with defaults most of the time.

I haven't really found a browser that I REALLY like using in a long time... and they all update at such a frantic pace these days, It's hard to tell which one I want to use today.

Yeah. I get to stay at least partially current with the various big ones. Running Edge & FF on my officemachine. Edge & Chrome on my home laptop, Konqueror and Firefox on my home "server".

Shoot... I need to go install Safari on everything now, lol.

The Chromium codebase is widely used. Microsoft Edge, Samsung Internet, Opera, and many other browsers are based on the code. Moreover, significant portions of the code are used by several app frameworks.

Everybody here knows what Chromium is and which browsers are based on it.

However, Google Chrome (yes, based on Chromium, as the world is well aware) is proprietary and is just a sick piece of garbage... what Google does with it.
