Apartment complexes, use your own router or not...
-
Many apartment complexes offer internet as part of the rent. I suspect it's shared. Aside from the shared bandwidth concern of maybe not being fast enough, would using your own router be a good idea (I suspect you are then ending up with double NAT)?

@CCWTech With most things being end to end encrypted, I'm wondering if aside from - I can see others devices and they can see mine is really much of an issue or if getting my own router and then subjecting myself to double nat would be the better option.

The only thing I've had problems with when using double NAT is some phone systems get very very cranky.
Other than that, just the normal downsides of not controlling your own external access.

Good question — whether you should (or can) use your own router in an apartment complex depends a lot on how the building’s Internet/WiFi is set up. There are pros, cons and caveats.

In the most recent apartment complexes I have rented from, none currently had the ability to offer internet; either by wire or wireless.
As with any rental, house, apartment regardless of type I supplied my own router and Wi-Fi.
