Desktop UPS - do you have a favorite?

If you go APC, be sure to install the biz version of Power Chute for monitoring the little ones. You need to USB them to the PC, but the biz power chute does more for alerting, etc. I kinda feel like there has to be a better brand, though... companies I've worked for have tended to default to APC because they are easy to find, but Easton and Tripp Lite seem to have more features from the little I have investigated.

If you're using a newer power supply with Active PFC, a lot of the cheap ones won't work. You'd need to find one that is Active PFC compatible.
We just got two CyberPower CP1000PFCLCD's not too long ago and they seem to be ok so far.

I have always preferred APC in general, but I will be testing out an Eaton next time I need to purchase one.

We got a couple of very large Eatons for our racks - would recommend the brand. Much cheaper than APC. No experience with their small stuff.

We also have a few Rack-Mounted Eaton's here. They have worked well so far!

You bought this for a desktop? Did you need extra clean power for a specific purpose?

Ya. The power supply is has Active PFC. We lost power one day and the computer shut off even though it was plugged into a cheap UPS that used a simulated sine wave. We had another outage and it stayed on with this one.

huh - that's what happened here recently with a power blip and my equipment is all on APC 3000 UPSs.

I've invested in some rack mount Eaton UPS units. Really great value in them. I would say APC or Eaton.

Those say they cover PFC. Truthfully I don't know much about UPS's other than what I found after we had that problem. That's why we got these. They were reasonably priced and were compatible.

Something is wrong with that cheap UPS then - PSU's are really not fussy about the quality of the AC as it's all rectified back to DC (and could run on DC in many cases!)

I have NEVER liked Tripp-Lite after the first one I used years ago did not work worth a crap. Yeah, maybe their gear has gotten better, but I've never bothered to look.
