I'm one of the culprits and I'm upset by it myself.

I have to admit I have a Lenovo. However, it was free and it's running Linux (so I don't think the BIOS stuff is an issue?). It's not my main though, just a side one I use for random stuff.

You mean, they bought decent stuff from IBM then tried to make their own 😉

And here I am taking a job that uses IBM/Lenovo BladeCenters exclusively.

Don't call them IBM/Lenovo, they are 100% Lenovo now. They put IBM in the name as marketing to make people think that it is enterprise class gear.

And blades on top of that? Dell even came out and said that blades make no sense and are just for the suckers to get locked in. They make them but don't recommend them.

Oh they have IBM blades prior to the acquisition and Lenovo blades post-acquisition (although they may be the same)... as a newbie I probably won't be in the position to bring up how blades cost so much with 0 benefits for a while.

Thanks for the read. We also have blades but our purchasing strategy is a bit different to the (I guess) usual one outlined in the article.

I thought I should mention that I have Storage blades (mini-SANs according to your article 😛 ) that have 12x SAS HDDs in them. The technology has changed, slightly, since you wrote the article but the principle is still the same (Sacrifice processing slots for storage).

                            Anyhoo...
