@JaredBusch Do you recommend sticking with Asterisk 13 on the new install or should I go with 15?

Not tested 15 yet, so I cannot answer that from experience. I can say that I’ve never had a problem caused by Asterisk

Same here, using 13 because FreePBX is recommending it right now. But doubt 15 would be an issue.

I have a PRI and it is through Time Warner/Spectrum. That all checks out on their end.

      Oh. Ewww

At the time we didn't have a SIP option. Now that they are trying to make us pay a $7000 bill for their F-up we'll be looking for a new SIP provider.

VoIP.ms and Flowroute I use and are good.

Twilio, I have not used yet, but it has good recommendations.

Well, we are one step newer, so that might be it.

      # fwconsole ma list | grep firewall | firewall | 13.0.46.1 | Enabled | AGPLv3+ |

I do not know the CLI command to revert, but it is simple to do in the GUI.

CLick "Check upgrades and then expand the Firewall and you will have a previous versions option.

Tested and you are right, rolling back to 45.5 and the message goes away.

You could upgrade to edge and see if it is different, but I would just wait for the next update.

@dashrender you could see opensips as a software version of this, but in high load scenarios or in transcoding the example @scottalanmiller gives about restricted instruction sets on the video chip is a great example.

If Asterisk was created after SIP standards were made it probably would have some type of domain filtering that would make the mobile issue a very easy fix.

That being said the responsive firewall was a huge leap forward, but i don’t see anything in their big requests that indicates they are going to go further. I’ve not tried to use the Sangoma SBC or to fix the issue since I’ve moved on. I’m guessing the domain for mobile access is very low amongst FreePBX users, or maybe it’s used on desktops inside a LAN that is not using the responsive firewall.

All the time. I only know this from having to log in every time the firewall gets behind and blocks the remote phones using responsive firewall.

I do think FreePBX is great, don't get me wrong. These are some the reasons I still prefer a freeswitch based deployment and enforcing domains as part of authentication. Almost all attempts to brute force authenticate are dropped simply because they don't know the domain (realm) being used and they quickly give up.

There is a lot more that I like over FreePBX in my current setup but that has more to do with trying to be a service provider.

For a single installation my only gripe is the way the firewall works, how do people use Bria and roam around. That being said they could close that gap at any moment and my only complaint would be the delicacy of updating systems or uploading the wrong format of an audio file. Which apparently only bigbear has ever had problems with. Lol.

Good point, is there a reason that you don't just grow the storage?

Not possible with Vultr instance, right? Have to expand while virtual machine?

With Vultr, you can add block storage on a per GB bases as needed. So yes, you can do it with Vultr without expanding the VM itself.

Yeah I guess he is probably in NJ data center. I've only used block storage in winblows server. Not sure how you'd move that location in FreePBX.

      LVM

Yep, I did this exact thing on a server with Vultr block storage. It is super easy. Purchase it, attach it to the server, create a mount point and mount the new storage device (shows up as another drive), then done.

In FreePBX Advanced settings, you can even specify an alternative destination for voicemails.

Yeah. . . I was having a dumb moment yesterday. I've actually taken a step back and asked the user to review with me what information they're actually wanting. I'm taking the angle of "now that we have FreePBX, let's see if [your information needs] can be better met."

I'm testing voip.ms's email to fax service. One immediate challenge is training users to send it plaintext E-mails or get them to delete all of the images from our default E-mail signature. >(

Is it possible to have the email server strip that when sending to a specific address?

Depends on the email server. Office365/Exchange Online can be configured to forced to send plain text emails to specific addresses IIRC.

What happens in those cases when you have a PDF or a Word doc attached?

Attachments would still be attached I believe. Could be wrong never had to do it.

I can speak only to RingCentral's service, but if you have text in the body, whether it be a signature or logo or anything in the body, it will try to print that extra text out on a separate page in the fax. Looks messy. We initiate ours through email and we have a fax cover letter template that users can fill out electronically and then also attach whatever they're wanting to send, preferably in PDF format. So generally it's sent to ### @ rcfax.com, and then 2 attachments, one for cover letter and one for the actual item being sent. Putting something in the subject line messes things up as well.

The resellers used to do it manually and charged $1 a phone, which is why I think adoption stalled. Plus documentation is horrible. Once you are in the portal its pretty obvious what can be done.

I have linked my GUI so that when you add a phone's mac address to my service it uses Yealink API to automatically configured RPS.

Per FreePBX developer I believe Yealink hasn't been quick to follow up on compatibility testing with FreePBX releases. This was a response I got on the FreePBX forums.

Have had different transfer issues myself when using FreePBX where you would transfer and the call would ring back (with no one there) wherever the extension transferred to was not picking up the call, instead of going to voicemail.

That specific issue is PJSIP only and has a known solution. I posted it. You have to use a config file to set it though. It does not have a setting in the GUI.

Yeah I suppose. I guess they take a different tack - you'd only want access if you have a phone there with you to control.

But I can see the point of why you might want access while not having an extension where you are. But this obtainable via DynDNS.

In fact, moving to smartphone apps and no phone might actually be the best solution of all. I guess it would depend upon how much data they use while not in the office.

Not really. They don't work as good as one might hope. It is usually easier for the sales person to jsut call with their mobile. everyone is expected to have one anyway.

Yeah, not that comparing to Altigen is ever valid, but the MaxMobile app is "meh" at best.

      Zoiper doesn't work?

Zoiper is just finicky at the best of times, and for whatever reason I've had no luck when on LTE instead of WiFi with it.

I use it regularly on LTE with little problem unless I am driving down 55.

Well, considering Motorola.... I'm going with the whole Lenovo breaking things.

get a real cell phone. 😉

Of course, and asap, but, money 😞
