No, you can't just copy the files. You have to image the system.

You should not consider ANY old OS, really ever. Outside of learning what support used to look like, which is effectively worthless, conceptually using an old OS is a bad idea. Windows 8, especially, is only one generation newer than Windows 7 which is already crazy old. Windows 8 is something like eleven versions old already!

@manxam so much longer, though. I had checked that out, but find the other to be better.

However if you are writing a script to fill out a form, I can see this being handier.

Obviously the paths would change based on where they actually live and since I want this to live outside of an individual user, pointing to the user paths would make no sense in a production case.

Also on WSL, if you go into /mnt you can get a list of all of the disks that are mounted on your Workstation/Server.
In the case of my workstation I only have the 1 disk, so only c is listed. Severs would likely have other drives.

Right, bypassing Windows can be an option, but it's a crappy one. But I got it working directly on Windows, so no need for a heavy VM for one app.

A simple scheduled task to run a simple PoSh script would be easiest IMO.

From the ISE, load the script and then enter-pssession for each system. Once connected, run the script from the ise. Sorted.

For now, just temporary disable Real-Time Protection via PowerShell
Set-MpPreference -DisableRealtimeMonitoring $true

Download the executable and scan it manually before you install
Start-MpScan -ScanPath C:\datastore\file.exe -ScanType QuickScan

Enable Real-Time Protection after the install
Set-MpPreference -DisableRealtimeMonitoring $false

Yeah, very in like with Fedora, Ubuntu, or Deepin. Deepin might still be my favourite installer for normal stuff of the four.
