So I reloaded my laptop. I have my home folder on a separate drive, so the whole process took just about as long as it takes for Fedora to install and me to type a line in /etc/fstab. Pretty much back to the way it was sans some programs. Took about 15 mins.

Trying to get all of the pictures uploaded from my phone to clean it off. It's filled up a bit.

Where do you store them? What service?

                      Very smokey day today.
Massive bushfire a burning in the south west.

I had a look at the satellite photos from the Bureau of Meterology and it's difficult to tell the difference between the smoke and the clouds coming in off the coast.

So we're supposed to take "tech tips" from someone who runs a server with 3 RAID 5's striped together in Windows with no backups? And apparently that server not only stores everything, but does their video encoding......

                        Youtube Video

Well he just got schooled in all aspects of disaster recovery.

                          Tech tips, not tech advice

Yeah SW had a long thread about how clueless and non-technical this guy is, too.

Holy cow, I just read the whole thing. Ya I wasn't pointing so much at the RAID 50 as I was no backups. But I did see this and couldn't believe it.

I thought SSD's would eliminate the need for RAID. But I'm still on the fence about this.

What is going on over there?

Running a business off a home built server with consumer class SSD drives. Consumer class drives and no backups are the problems here. So sad from someone who really should know better.

Someone on SW is "on the fence" as to whether or not backups are still needed? Dear Lord!

He's just a gamer bench monkey, from what I've gathered. Not someone who knows anything about computers or storage. I only know him from a couple of these goofy videos. Nothing wrong with being a bench guy that tinkers for gaming machines, but he's obviously not even a high school IT intern. I'm not sure he's supposed to know anything more about computers than someone's grandma would.

Hit the gym already today, took a double shot of Nyquil and should be passing out soon. First day off in a couple weeks here! 😄
