It's known as a retirement area and it's pretty rural. I don't think there is much IT out there.

That's how everyone describes Florida in general.

As a Brit, can confirm - It's just full of Retired people except for like, 2 weeks of Spring Break stuff isn't it?

Unless you are near the coastline, FL is a rural nightmare, full of geriatric Canadians and gators.

Not too far off. My parents have a house down by Daytona. It seems like it is full of retired people and the service industry surrounding them. It also has a bunch of "NASCAR Fans" as I politely call them.

Spring break to US locations is rather sad. Anyone who can goes outside the country.

It's a new thing since I was in college. People didn't really do it then, it was just starting to be an idea. Spring break is a break in the winter (um.. what?) that in recent years has turned into college students going to cheap foreign beach locations in huge masses to get totally wasted where they would be underage to drink in the US since college students can't drink in the US (creating the massive alcoholism and binge drinking problems known in the US and unknown elsewhere.)

Nailed it. Most colleges have this break around the same time, so partying happens.

I remember people in college talking about going way for Spring Break... I always worked if there was a job available.

I never went to a college that had a break. So it didn't exist for us at all.

We always headed to the mountains to go fishing for spring break.

I tihnk so. It may vary by state. But I know in Georgia, you can buy a rifle / handgun at 18.

It's known as a retirement area and it's pretty rural. I don't think there is much IT out there.

That's how everyone describes Florida in general.

As a Brit, can confirm - It's just full of Retired people except for like, 2 weeks of Spring Break stuff isn't it?

Yeah, but many areas are worse than others with retirees. Where I live there isn't a huge number of older people like you would find in St. Petersburg (Home of the newly wed and nearly dead). As someone already mentioned a good number of the retirees are Canadian. Which is also the reason Florida hockey teams have a decent size market compared to other places.

You can basically break Florida up into 3 sections. South Georgia (which is anywhere North of Orlando). Lot's of nascar fans as someone put it. Central Florida (my area... Orlando, Space Center, Beaches, etc.). South Florida ( Miami style living with big pocket books).

Spring break to US locations is rather sad. Anyone who can goes outside the country.

TBH I don't even know what Spring break actually is...I assume its a school holiday where everyone just gets wasted...but that's just from watching american teen films etc..?

It's a new thing since I was in college. People didn't really do it then, it was just starting to be an idea. Spring break is a break in the winter (um.. what?) that in recent years has turned into college students going to cheap foreign beach locations in huge masses to get totally wasted where they would be underage to drink in the US since college students can't drink in the US (creating the massive alcoholism and binge drinking problems known in the US and unknown elsewhere.)

So...you can legally buy a rifle before you can drink yeah..?

                                        Handguns too.

My quick google said handguns are 21 in most States, which is the age for alcohol if I remember rightly?

Yes. Rifles can be purchased by those under 18 most places (many places? some places at least.) Hand guns is normally higher, but not rifles. Cigarettes and military you can do at 18. Drinking is 21 in at least 49 states and is a major contributor to the US being such a high drug use country. (When I was in Spain people were terrified by the economic conditions sending people to the English-speaking, heavy drug use countries and what it was going to do to their culture to have junkies returning.)

                                            Difference is...

                                            • MOST states are 21 for handguns, ALL are for alcohol.
                                            • NO county denies handguns I don't think, TONS of counties are dry.
