In this daycare, since it is publicly funded, I wonder if the daycare provider is an arm to CPS. . . Maybe that is why the teacher is performing the check-in.

Of course it is, that's why the government funds it.

@wrcombs Does the teacher walk around the house, or do they simply come over and sit on the couch and talk?

If it's anything more than a sit down and talk, then it is a CPS assessment of your home, and the housing conditions for the child.

Even if you don't know about it.

There are differences between a CPS assessment, and a parent-teacher conference. Granted, a PTC at your residence very much leans towards a CPS assessment. . .

They come in, Sit down , talk ( usually about goals and such) then they leave. I offered to show them around the first time and they said it wasn't what they were there for.

Leave a broken down motor in parts on the living room floor, making a massive mess of the house and see how it changes their tune. . . /sarcasim-off

I'm not necessarily opposed to home visits. But personally, my feeling is that they should either be universal (every home, all the time) or should be blocked until there is reason to inspect. Not using low cost services as an excuse to use income disparity or social need as an excuse to inspect some people and not others (or some people with kids and not others.)

This becomes a form of discrimination. In the US we often accept discrimination based on income, but that's really not very sensible. And income is often tied to other factors, so it is automatically a proxy for those other factors.

Then why force the teacher to do this at all if this was truly a concern? The moment they enter the home, they would be subject to these same influences with little ability to escape. . .

We tend to see it more in lower income because those in higher income brackets are either able to cover it up better or are able to bribe some government officials to look the other way.

So they are simply trying to ascertain the child's needs through a parent who is only an emergency contact..

Seems like a waste of money to me. . .

Yes, in reality, it is you that are in danger. Probably not even a record of them going there since you aren't even officially the correct person or address.

I guess the question is why aren't they speaking with the kids mother (or primary care taker and residence operator) rather than you?

It seems like an attempt to milk you for your money for your ex. . . . (wooh he just bought this. . . Take him to court to get more money)

                                        (cynical me)

They come in, Sit down , talk ( usually about goals and such) then they leave. I offered to show them around the first time and they said it wasn't what they were there for.

Leave a broken down motor in parts on the living room floor, making a massive mess of the house and see how it changes their tune. . . /sarcasim-off

hahah right? But heres the thing, they've only came to my house and im not even on the account there other than as an emergency contact and Parent pick up.. So basically them coming to my current home shouldnt be happening because they havent even seen my exes house. not once.

How do they get to come there then? Why do you let them in? Call the cops.

I just found out last week that I am not on the Account other than parent pick up and emergency contact, after I already set up the Home visit with them so my son could stay a "student" at their school. after this, they know to contact her or stop her when shes picking him up and tell her.

@WrCombs I'm assuming you're paying child support etc.

Which is why I say it like that. Why investigate you / your residence rather than the residence that the kid lives at, and with the people that they stay with constantly. Besides as a means to assess your ability to pay more. .
