Composing a strongly worded email to local MP and train operators on why has the trains been cancelled 6 times in 3 weeks which in turn costs me an extra £15 to get into work by taxi as I've missed my lift!!!!

Wow. That’s a bit extreme. And in Japan they are upset when a train is 20 seconds early!

Why's that? because they then leave 20 seconds early?

Because it left early, so people had 20 seconds less to get on it, I'm assuming.

Aren't the trains in Japan packed like sardines, is 20 seconds that many fewer people? Also aren't they fully using bullet trains over there that go over 200 MPH?

No, that's China and India. I think Japans are pretty normal. Japan's famous for one of the best train networks in the world (maybe THE best.)

Until London and Paris I hadn't really ever been on a train system (yeah sure I used it a tiny bit in Chicago, but I was under no pressure, so meh). I was impressed at how well it worked.

That does seem like cause. Arrive early, fine, but don't leave early.
What was the cause? Were the clocks 20 seconds fast?

I didn't hear the reason, but it made the global news. They had to pay fines and stuff.

To whom? Are the trains not municipal or state owned?

And those are just so so. You should see Spain, Germany, Austria, or Switzerland! They make UK and France look meh.

Not sure, but Japan has super strict penalties for not being right on time. Things that seem insane in the US where nothing is on time. Each passenger gets paid if they are late even a few minutes. It's part of how they build trust in the system.

awww, well that's entirely different. Companies can hold the train company liable for late employees then, assuming the rest of the ducks are in a row. Interesting concept.

The Japanese train system is ran by corporations, but with a strong link to government as any large system generally has.

Until recently they did not have a consolidated payment system either. The nation has mostly standardized on the Suica & Pasmo systems that uses the FeliCa RFID standard. FeliCa is why Apple had to make a special iPhone 7 for Japan. It is not compatible with the RFID standard used in the US.

My biggest annoyance with Japanese train system is delays caused by suicides. Getting stuck on a platform in the middle of no where for 2 hours after an international flight from the U.S. sucks. I have learned that if this notice is on the sign for a stopped train.. 人身事故 that I am going to be sitting a while.. It is a shortened version of the phrase for personal injury. And it the polite way they annoice the train is stopped due to a suicide.

The train that left early was not a packed commuter train.

This is what a packed commuter train looks like during rush hour.

In the highly unlikely even anyone would have use for this, I have the following available. Send me a direct message (no laughing) should you be interested in any of this.

13 Altigen IP720 phones with failed PoE (phone functions fine with power adapter)
                          25 power adapters.

So today’s Sage fix was for one workstation to run the application in Windows 8 compatibility mode. Since the workstation is on Windows 10 1709 with no option to restore previous build anymore. .
