I pay Hulu $12.99/m for the no ads version - sadly, I still get an occasional ad, but it's on only like 2 of the shows I watch there, definitely not the majority.

That means it is not a no ads version by definition.....

Hulu doesn't have an ad free version at all as far as I recall.

I know. That is why I don’t pay for their service.

I don’t pay to watch ads.

      Exactly..

Unlike @RojoLoco, I don’t mind ads on services in general. But I won’t pay for a service and then still be forced to deal with ads.

I really wonder how true this is?

I think most networks have ads for their own shows if not for more traditional product based ads. This is something I find annoying about Amazon Prime - the ad for some other damned show on their service.

Which frankly doesn't make sense to me. The only possible explanation I can come up with is - they need to keep you interested in new content to more likely ensure that you will stay a customer.

But you can skip Amazon Prime's ads as they are just tack on's to the video you're about to watch. Unlike with Youtube where you're forced to watch the entire ad or wait that 5 seconds before you can skip.

I have no idea what you two are discussing here. I only rarely watch Amazon PrimeTV, but I’ve not seen a prepended ad to a movie.

I've been watching Stargate Universe on Amazon Prime - and when watching on the Amazon Fire stick - it almost always shows an ad for some show before every episode. fucking annoying!

I watched several episodes on my laptop the other day, and noticed - no ads there.

I've been watching a few more shows on Prime (Just got done with all four season of The Expanse) and the only ad's that I have seen are for their own Prime originals. Those are ad's I can understand. Plus, I can always forward through them so not a big deal.

For a paid video service, no, that is not acceptable.

But as I do not actually pay for Prime Video, it is a benefit of my Prime for shipping, etc. Then it falls into a gray area.

LOL - you say you're paying for prime shipping - the next guy says he's paying for prime video and getting the shipping as a side benefit.. 😉

Yup, that is why it is a gray area.

I don't have issue with up or side selling. It could be considered "product placement" vs an ad.

      Still a big grey area.

What the ad is for is not relevant. It is an ad. Period. There is no free pass for this.

This is more or less how I see it. And ad is an ad - why piss off people and not go the whole way and earn money on ads for other people. showing ads of your own shows just gets people to watch your streaming service more - which costs you more money - and unless the shows themselves are generating revenue by something like product placement, that just doesn't make sense to me - again, as previously stated - the concern is that if people don't know about the new content they might bail on their subscription....

@Dashrender My favorite is when I'm watching The Expanse and they show a pre-roll for... The Expanse... come on Amazon.

no, not product placement - this is definitely an ad - it steals my time for something I don't care about. A product placement in a show I'm already watching doesn't cost me anything.. ads cost me time (see time calculation above with Hulu Ads)

Agreed - it's only for Amazon's own shows that I'm getting ads - but really - I don't want any fraking ads!

But as previously mentioned - I've been denied so frequently in the past - I am assuming that I internally assumed you couldn't forward past them, so I've likely never tried, otherwise I'd be doing exactly that - and will now be trying that...

I get not having any ads if a person is paying for a service and that is why I have never been a fan of Hulu. It seem one has to pay out the butt to have no ads. Never seemed to provide enough value for me.

I will be pissed, like you, if Netflix starts putting ads out there.

I dont see many Ads on Amazon Prime.. I cant remember seeing one during a show... after the show, yes, But that's at the very end when the episode is over.. but not ever during the show.

I subbed to Amazon Prime specifically for the Amazon Originals, The Expanse, The Boys, The Grand Tour, Carnival Row. Are all extremely good TV. I'm excited for Hunters that looks really good.

The Boys - turned out to be better than I thought. It sat there for a while until I said, WTH. Now I want season 2 ASAP

Carnival Row - I thought it was going to better than it was. It was OK

The Expanse - Started SLOW for first four episodes but then I got addicted and blew through all seasons in a week.

Marvelous Mrs Maisel - Didn't enjoy season 3 as much as 1 and 2 but good show.

                Looking forward to Hunters myself.

I give Amazon a pass as they are mostly for Amazon Originals and also since Prime Video is just an add-on service to being an Amazon Prime member.

I dont see many Ads on Amazon Prime.. I cant remember seeing one during a show... after the show, yes, But that's at the very end when the episode is over.. but not ever during the show.

I've never seen an ad after or during an Amazon show.. nor do I expect any.

It always gives you an immediate option to skip it too. Unlike Youtube that has a 5-15 second wait.

maybe thats Why i dont remember seeing any.

Wife doesn't care about The Expanse - need to take the time after I'm done with SG Universe to watch it.

The Wife watches Marvelous Mrs Maisel - she loves it.

I have not seen any during or even after (just goes to next episode in 5 seconds during the credits). Interesting you have seen ads. I will watch for that now.

It's generally pre-roll at the beginning of a binge session. I haven't seen it on Fire TV or Roku TV, but I have seen it on my phone and tablet.

Agreed - it's only for Amazon's own shows that I'm getting ads - but really - I don't want any fraking ads!

But as previously mentioned - I've been denied so frequently in the past - I am assuming that I internally assumed you couldn't forward past them, so I've likely never tried, otherwise I'd be doing exactly that - and will now be trying that...

                                    and they're always about Amazon.

Wife doesn't care about The Expanse - need to take the time after I'm done with SG Universe to watch it.

The Wife watches Marvelous Mrs Maisel - she loves it.

I became a big fan of The Expanse. The messed up part is, I couldn't really tell you why. Weird.....

Interesting - I mainly use an Fire Stick 4K - and I definitely see it at the start of a binge sitdown... if I pause between shows - to say get a drink - I'll get another one when I start the next episode. But going show to show - it doesn't have one.
