Just finished a phone interview that seemed to go very well. Not the really nice role I applied for, but even closer to home and the ability to work remotely.

so walking away from work to help my son get lunch, get him drinks, etc through out the day would equate to the same time away from my desk at work or stuck in conversations with other people.
Yes exactly. If something had come up that was important during that time you probably would have delayed the other things. You were available to work and often do therefore you should claim that time.

What The fuck ./You could have just as easily done nothing for work all day at home assuming no calls came in... so Scott's claim that you send people home to work - meh. As many things - it's completely dependent upon the situation, and that can change daily.

I think the issue is that he got docked an hour while working from home, but while in the office, he can dick around for that hour or more and still get paid for 8.

Please explain where he was docked?
If he was in the office - and arrived at 8 AM, took lunch noon to 1 PM, then left at 4 PM - that's only 7 hours of clock time.

Now - if the company was giving him the free extra hour of 4-5 PM because he was "in the office that day" that's a totally different thing.

Something doesn't make sense here, either you're salary or hourly, or salary with overtime benefits (like in NY with many IT professionals).
Your rate can never go lower than your base hourly rate, say $20/hour for "missing an hour of work"

This is not New Guys - I'm Hourly .
have been since I started and will not go Salary until they make me.
The old boss had in the past mess with peoples rates for certain issues. add that to the list of why i want out of here
