got a combined interview for 5 new sites on Wednesday. could be up to 10+ people interviewing me in 1 meeting. I'll try and use the ridiculousness of the arrangement to my advantange.

Nice, good luck mate. Sounds like more work... in a good way 😉

Sounds like it may descend into chaos if they’re not on the ball

Yep I reckon. They all know each other, I know people from 2 of the sites, but don't know if they'll be there. I'm expecting it to turn into a chat fest.

Rebooting servers, because it's early and no one is using them. . .

Using VitalPBX and Yealink phones all day, every day has made me really notice that no one has a good phone system and that the sound quality for everyone is just crap. You can hear so much compression and jitter on things like WebEx or just normal phone calls. I'm so ridiculously spoiled. Most of our customers are on Skyetel with us, so we are on HD audio end to end most of the day.

Does anybody running KVM have issues with Windows XP guests?

Just upgraded XCP-ng from 7.6 to 8.0 and now our stupid ass ancient punch clock app running on XP won't boot

Catching up after a 3 day weekend at Hamcation in Orlando. Picked up a new radio and a couple new to me radios, along with a random assortment of what will probably be unnecessary purchases, but seemed like a good idea at the time. Anyone else in here an amateur radio operator?

Don't have any currently to look at. But we've had no issues in the past.

I think the issue lies in the fact that your business is still relying on Windows XP for any service.

Talk with the punch clock vendor and get a new one, don't blame the hypervisor. 😉

With KVM, when installing unsupported OS like Windows XP through Virtual Machine Manager, you end up using the generic default template.

                                Chipset will be i440fx.
Storage will be IDE bus type.
                                Nic will be e1000(Intel).

No chance to upgrade? Running XP is ... almost suicidal. You should at least isolate that machine and all attached things (-> e.g. dedicated VLAN).

100% not blaming the hypervisor lol I can't tell you how many times I've told management that the thing is on it's last leg and no longer supported. The software hasn't been updated since 2001... Silly me keeps fixing it though. I think it might finally be time to upgrade.

I spend at least an hour a week updating the thing manually, I've added up my costs and shown them how much money the stupid ass thing costs the company and they don't care.

I do need to spin it up on something and retrieve the data though. That's why I was asking about KVM. I guess I could just do it on my computer with Hyper-V

This is what somebody recommended for XCP-ng, too. Create a new VM with the "Other install media" template and attach the disk to it.
