      Yes, I explicitly made that point above. Doing USB boots, using software RAID.... these are things that Hyper-V doesn't support either and are outside of the scope of the product. It's fine to USB boot for either, but every case of someone saying that XS is hard always turns out to be someone going outside of accepted use or doing something super advanced or doing something that is just as hard or harder on Hyper-V. Did you try Hyper-V from USB and have no problems?

      I'm days behind, so my posts are just now catching up.

      Sure I realize (now) that booting from USB is a non recommended by XS solution. Even so, and no I didn't get Hyper-V to run from USB, you know of the problems, IF I could get Hyper-V to boot from a USB, finding the local storage that houses the VHDs is easy in Windows - Disk manager. Then just mount it, assuming it wasn't mounted already.

      Combine that with the fact that the VM setup information isn't stored with the VM but in some other location in XS (I'm actually not sure where MS Stores it in Hyper-V, but I know that VMWare stores the VM setup data with the VM itself, at least by default).

      Don't take all this to mean that XS is hard, I'm only saying that it's harder than Hyper-V to a Windows Admin for advanced stuff (like recovering a boot partition). Typical day to day stuff is easier for the same reason I like VMWare over Hyper-V, a single pane of glass for most things needed to admin the server.

      I'll toss in there, you can't add XO to XS without allowing all the free tools for Hyper-V at the same time.

          And then, still, only easy if you are using Windows systems to manage it. Which many do, but it is a requirement for it to be easy. So there is a cost there, even if only of lock in.

            FYI, XOA is not free. This is the paid version. You'll have to install a Linux VM, then install the XO files into that to get a free version of XO running.

            Also about network adapter for XenServer VM, how can we make it to get ip from real dhcp server, as it is nested VM ( ESXi -> XenServer7 (as VM) -> XOA) , so I want this XOA to get ip from dhcp ip to access and test it how it works before I move ?

            If your XS7 install is getting a DHCP address from the real network, then VMs within XS7 should also be able to get DHCP from the same source.

              To reiterate this, you can use XOA during the trial period, then buy a license or you can build a new VM and then install XO using Dustin's script into that VM. The XO guys don't provide an importable VM template for the free version.

                After its first start, XO creates automatically one admin account. The account name is admin@admin.net and the password is admin.

                I am talking about accessing from Console on XenCenter not from Web.

                Even I tried root/root, root/xoa and the one you mentioned, but no luck.

                              Your best bet is to install Ubuntu and use the script

                                If XOA converts to a free version after the trial, that's news to me.

                                        How about VM backup in XenCenter or Xen-Orchestra Free ?

                                        1. XenCenter : When I googled, there is backup option via Bash or manual way.....
                                        2. XO Free: No VM backup too 😞 ?

                                        This is a basic edition, allowing you to do administrator tasks on a virtualized infrastructure. It's "like" XenCenter. You can:

                                        Create VMs, SRs etc.
Access to web consoles
Edit resources (VM, pools etc.)
Make snapshots
Migrate VMs

                                          XC is only control, not features. And there are reasons that we never use or recommend it. Ignore that it even exists.

                                            It absolutely does, @DustinB3403 uses it and people talk about it all the time. @olivier has been posting about the awesome new backup features that they are working on adding, as well.
