Had some time to myself last night and whipped through a few movies: Swordmaster (Chinese movie), Doctor Strange, and Kubo.
Wasn't Kubo fantastic? I love that movie.
It was really good. A bit esoteric for many, but I liked it. Just the stop motion photography was simply amazing.
I got choked up watching it

Meaning the Japanese-esque stuff is not exactly right. It is an American's perception of it.

That was a bit disconcerting to me before I mentally shut off the running critique and just watched it. I think what pushed me over the edge was Matthew McConnaughey's voice for Hanzo. That being said, I was able to enjoy it for what it was once I got over that.

Yes, as I said we all enjoyed the movie. Including my wife (Japanese).

Who is conditioned already to the American bastardization of all other cultures.

There is that, but Kubo was a well made movie and the story is good.
Just was pointing out that the Japanese influences, were just that. Influences.

6 episodes in and I'm still thoroughly confused by the new Twin Peaks, but such is life when watching David Lynch stuff.

This reminds me of I am Legend.
Normally I really dislike zombie movies, but I am Legend was tolerable, the story here makes this movie seem tolerable.

It's only kind of a Zombie movie or book. It's tangentially related to the genre without making it the central focus. The book has won all kinds of awards and I really need to read it when I get the time.
