@NerdyDad They have BBC America, but no Dr. Who, as far as I know.

      Fail 😉

But I'm not a fan of Hulu's crap ads. And my friends who have paid the higher no ad version said there are still ads, so - yeah no thanks.

We have the "No Ad" version. Only one show we watch has ads.. and it's only one at the beginning and one at the end of the show... So nice when compared with trying to watch shows on TV.

Still waiting to get out of my DirecTV contract to switch to Sling TV. Hopefully their CloudDVR solution will be out of beta by then.

          Get a ChannelMaster DVR

Looks interesting. Do you have one of these? Will it record from Sling?

I do have one of these, I don't have sling personally, plus I don't watch that much TV to need sling. I don't believe you can record from sling either.

But you can pick up over the air channels for free, watch youtube and add slingtv packages too it.

Is there a reason to record from Sling? They are a streaming service, do they not cache/store everything so you can watch it later? If not, OK then I understand why you want that.

@Dashrender It just streams the live channel. You cannot go back with sling.tv

edit: a few shows are on demand from the various networks. But not ones I watch.

                    Nope.

It will be a great day indeed when you can someday pick only the channels YOU want instead of stupid packages.

That will likely never happen. Many channels only exist because they are part of a network. They wouldn't probably get enough funding on their own. I could be wrong though.

Na, you're right. It's too bad. We can dream, right?

You're close. Lets take @travisdh1 for example. He wants History, Discovery, and Syfy. Syfy for a cable company might cost $5/subscriber/month, but can't get Syfy without also subscribing to 3-4 other channels that nobody watches for maybe $1-1.50/sub/month each. This is also similar for those that wants History and Discovery separately. So, just to get those 3 channels might cost him $45/month and get an additional 15 channels that he will never watch. This is why the cable market sucks (that and also subscriber monopolies in agreement with cities) and why it won't get any better without people cutting the cord, which is already happening.

SlingTV people - how do you like it overall? And what are you running it on?

My neighbor got Sling and runs it on a Roku, and it is SSSSSLLLLLLOOOOOOOWWWWWWWW. Like almost unusably so, plus there are commercials. He has it primarily for Fox sports 1 so we can watch UFC preliminary fights on fight night, but he's considering ditching it because of the poor performance.

Knowing you, I think I already know the answer to my question. The upload side of that internet connection is good and quick, right? The idea of a Roku is great, but we just don't have the bandwidth around here to really use one.

Sling won't work for me personally because of my demand of time shifting.

Yeah many of the apps on the ROKU are not the greatest. They have a PS Vue app - it's what I consider unusable. I purchased an Amazon TV and it was much more traditional grid like for normal TV things, and they offer DVR services for every station, AFAIK.

What bandwidth levels are you limited to?

Of course, now with most if not all ISPs implementing caps, 4K streaming will probably be stifled.
