      You might put some projects you've implemented at each of your jobs, something the business is still using. How the projects were managed (if by you), planned etc.

      That is a good point.

      I am about half done with a NextCloud project - so that could be added.

      I've put Nextcloud and Zabbix into production here, among general mistake fixing

        Flip it,.. you want to highlight your skill set BEFORE the job history.

        Dates should line up, and never wrap.

          @gjacobse I've always been under the impression that you should highlight your strongest stuff first. My experience is stronger than my knowledge on paper although I do have a lot of stuff to add.

            If I had to look at resumes for an hour, I want to know what you can do / have done. Not where you work. That comes when I decide to look at you harder... it's the Thirty second rule.... Wow me,.. but you are being timed....

              @gjacobse The hard part of that is honesty. Most of the people I'll be competing with will be lying. I've seen it everywhere. It's hard to compete with people that might as well not exist (they aren't actually who they are presenting). I will typically get the job once I stop becoming a name on a piece of paper, but it's hard to get past that point.

                I agree that there is a line when building a resume.

                While working with persons with challenging history / employment, we had to be very careful as to what was on a resume. You have to be creative without it being a flat-out lie. I have a few examples, but would prefer to not list them.... But here's one.

                Car Thief = Parts Acquisition Engineer
                Janitor = Environment protection technician
                (eta)
                Vandalism = Abstract Visual Designer

                Have to be creative in a positive manner....

                    In today's world it feels like you can't be honest and be competitive almost. Of course, I am stubborn about it. that's probably why I make less than I could though. I just don't like the idea of someone dictating the kind of person I am.

                      Ah - something else... You have two listed as present employment. Both should be listed together, regardless of begin date,

                        @gjacobse It's misrepresenting the truth. If you're on a date and you ask the girl what she does and she says "I'm a petroleum technician" when in reality she pumps gas are you going to be like "that's fair"? I seriously doubt it.

                            @gjacobse I'm just not willing to play that game. When someone asks me what I do I just say computer shit. They can make assumptions about what level I am at because they aren't interviewing me and it doesn't matter. The interview process sucks because you have to represent yourself in a fake way.

                              It's marketing, and marketing yourself will be the sole biggest effect of your career. It will determine everything from how much money you will make, how much training you will get (free or out of pocket), what position you can get, etc.

                                Yeah but there are different types of salesman. There are slimey douchebag salesman and honest salesman who are just selling a good product. I want to be honest and clear with my employer and let them know exactly what they are getting, not sell them a golden turd.

                                  Actually, according to Scott, as long as they aren't lying, the sales persons are the same, or the second one is not doing their job correctly.

                                          Are you a golden turd? If not what do you have to worry about?

                                            If I present myself in a dishonest way I'm a golden turd in the sense that i look great but I'm actually shit (can't do my job)
