Yes, I like it more than FOG (though, I haven't used FOG yet) because I'm under the impression FOG is clone-based imaging only.

How can you say you like it more if you've never tried it?

Are you saying I should I like something that I haven't used yet more?

I'm saying, you shouldn't dislike something you haven't used because of a perception you have.

I don't dislike it. I was being clear on my reasoning, that I haven't used it yet, but I have read about it. I haven't used it because of what I've read about it.

You haven't used it because and I quote "FOG is clone-based imaging only". What do you think any imaging solution is? You would make your "clone" of your golden image, and that target now looks identical to your golden image. .

If you use a USB or DVD to deploy the image onto the target, it's still a clone of a golden image. . .

I take it you've never used WDS or MDT... or at least not past 4% of their capabilities. I'd consider 4% of the MDT capabilities to consist of having a golden image and deploying it. There's still so much more.

I do like using task sequences with a golden image.

I would think that Ansible and SaltStack are out since they typically don't have tie in to the Windows 10 OS AFAIK. Maybe a FOG server?

They don't image, either. They would be the layer on top of imaging.

            MDT
            https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/deploy-windows-mdt/deploy-a-windows-10-image-using-mdt

Will that run on something other than Windows?

"We don't want to invest in another Windows server unnecessarily for something that it isn't useful for."

              Anyways. . .

I already stated that licensing needs to be considered, and as for the tool to use, fogproject.org is the one. It's hands down the best imaging solution I've used and it just works, at scale.

Simple and quick and easy to maintain.

              Does that require a server?

Can be run on anything. Raspberry Pi, desktop, server, etc.

I think he's saying that "more" can't apply. Because you like MDT "X" amount, but FOG you like "null" amount. In math, you can't compare against a null, because it doesn't exist. No value, of X can ever me more likely to be "more" than a null than it is to be "less" than a null. Using the logic that you've never tried FOG, you can't say that you then like MDT more, any more than you can say that you like it less. There is simply no comparison.

                That was his point.

Otherwise we could interpret it at random. You love MDT, hate MDT, find it exactly the same as FOG... are all equally incorrect based on a null comparison.

Because I have read about Fog and seen some of it, it's not null. Therefore I am able to have some like or dislike and form an opinion.

Just like I never drove a Lamborghini, but still like them more than a VW Beetle which I've owned in the past.
