Access local share with MS Account

Is one of these 2 systems hosting this shared folder?
If so as the user on the remote system, you would either need to be given permissions to access the share with authenticated credentials or you would have to use the credentials of the user who is sharing them.
For example
sharepc/user passwordRather than
user passwordWhich the latter defaults to using the local computer name as the domain.

@DustinB3403 The machines are not on a domain now. They are both "workgroup" machines. I can easily add a local account and get access like normal. I am unsure on how to use the MS login credentials to set up permissions. Trying to avoid having to sign into different accounts to access a share.

On the shared folder can you not grant the remote user access via their email address?

@DustinB3403 I know it should work this way but it seems intermittent. That is what I am trying to verify. The remote user would need their username/password on the machine that is being accessed in order to grant them access. I cannot recall if i've ever set up a local account on a machine with MS credentials. Having everything in AD makes you forget all the nuances of a workgroup.

Just grant the user@microsoft.com access to the share for the remote user's account.
That should be all you need to do.

I'm just taking a stand in the dark, the Microsoft account could be the users personal email for all I know.

not all, is whatever email they use for their Microsoft Account, it can be @yahoo.com or @outlook.com or any domain used.
