      T Minus 15 (Days)

Two weeks and a day until Windows 7 is no longer supported, and the upgrade options to Windows 10 evaporate.

What do you mean the upgrade options? Like all the sudden a Windows 10 USB or Disc will stop supporting the upgrade?

This is my question as well.

Perhaps Scott believes that the free upgrade will no longer be free after support is dumped.

Without rereading the thread we have on the subject, I believe it has to be a "Supported" install of Windows 7. After the cut, it is no linger a supported system.

Does this mean the upgrade will not work? Most likely it will still work. But the legal verbiage is what matters. always has.

        The license stops being upgradable.

I believe it because we dug into it and it's very clear that that is what the license says.

Right, according to the EULA, the upgrade to Windows 10 exists only from a currently supported OS. Windows 7 Pro qualifies as a Windows 10 license until January 14th, at which time it is not supported and the license to go to Windows 10 "evaporates." Just like it did for Windows 8.

This is the thread where we dug into it and determined that Windows 8 was not an option because support had expired. Currently supported is a requirement for the Windows 10 license.

I'll post it again here for easy reference.

A free upgrade did, there has always been one, then replaced by another. The free upgrade process has always been there, but there have been three or four different programs for it. So yes, lots of expired. But overall free upgrades have never expired.

So many threads on that here 😉

Non-genuine and unsupported are different in my eyes, but whatever Microsoft

Maybe Balmer was beating on a keyboard for that one.
