Not IT related at all, but my new project during lock down is learning to do video editing (I actually really enjoy it) using open source tools and taking my [mostly B roll] footage from my niece's 2019 grand tour of Europe graduation present and making it into a YouTube show. I'm using OpenShot currently and this is my first serious attempt at editing and publishing a travel vlog. Emily is my niece who just graduated from both high school and her associates degree; Madeline is her older sister who was a sophomore at Texas A&M at the time (they are both at A&M now), and Dominica is obviously my wife. We went to Europe for about five weeks and did Greece, Italy, France, and Catalonia. This is the first episode.

      Youtube Video

I'd really love it if people took the time to like and subscribe, of course. I put a lot of work into this and we are trying to actually make a go of the channel. Thanks everyone!

@scottalanmiller Kindred spirit. I have my associates degree in video electronics and production. Never used it. At the time I graduated, I didnt know anyone in the industry so it never panned out. Editing was my absolute favorite thing to do. To take the raw footage and create something out of it was very satisfying. Good for you man!!

Ordering a new microphone to make voice overs better and easier. And looking to attempt switching from OpenShot to KdenLive to see if it is more powerful before the next episode.

                            Looking at this one...

                            https://www.amazon.com/Amazonbasics-Desktop-Mini-Microphone-Gen2-White/dp/B07TGQB7RK/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=usb+microphone+amazonbasics&qid=1589905214&sr=8-1

Just a nice USB mic for my desk that will pick up good vocals.

This one is cheaper and well reviewed, but out of stock for a week.

Blender really isn't for video editing. It can, but it's not built for it. It's really more to compete with After Effects. I have it, but would be pretty rough for normal video stuff.

Davinci Resolve is $300 for all the features, and requires so much horsepower, I'm not sure it would even fire up on my machine 🙂 I had looked at it, though.

Resolve is free. Resolve studio is the paid one but I'm pretty sure it's fairly featurefull for free. You don't get things like stereoscopic 3D grading, motion blur effects, team collaboration, etc. But for normal editing it's pretty nice.

I've been watching it a long time and it looks really nice. I thought that there were some key features in paid only, but maybe not. Certainly worth testing.
