      Details:

      • Dell 5580
      • TPM enabled
      • Secure Boot enabled
      • Bitlocker active

Device fails to power on, Ran the normal gambit; power supply, dock, remove re-seat all internals.

When trying to recover data from the M.2 drive, Windows states that it must be initialize before use. Both of the M.2 USB carrier boards were tried. Installed into another Dell device and while it came up to the Bitlocker recovery, it then went into Windows Recovery.

I also tried Linux and gparted didn’t see the drive either.

Is this a case of- all attempts tried and failed - data is lost?

Can you boot to another device on the Dell that got to the Windows Recovery? That's your best hope.

I'd check warranty, and replace/reload/restore from backup. Is the data worth all this effort to get it back? If it is, why isn't it backed up somewhere. (If the answer is user not adhering to company policy, here's your get out of jail free card.)

No the system doesn’t power on.

Warranty expire in August. Yes- train users,.. I’ve gone through all of the normal things.

          Thanks

You will need to enter the bitlocker recovery key to get any data off of it if BitLocker is enabled. If it's an AAD device, hopefully it's set up so the recovery key is available in there.

On all drives I have used here with Bitlocker, it connects and a message is displayed about Bitlocker.

This never reaches that point. Disk Manager, and manage-bde do not see the hardware.

I have used managed-bed to query drives, unlock decrypt and turn off Bitlocker.

@gjacobse At this point if data is important you should use a data recovery company to see if they can get the drive and then you can decrypt it.
