Suggestion to mirror the server's main hard disk

Hello Everyone.. I know this is @scottalanmiller favorite topic.
it's shameful but our server main hard disk is not yet configured to mirror the Hard drive.
I would love to ask your opinion and suggestion.
Our server are HP Proliant Dl120 G7 and HP Proliant DL320e
My question is
What is the best mirroring set-up for the server main hard disk?Thanks.

I'm not sure exactly what your question is but, I usually like RAID 10 for anything with data on it. But you still won't backups - a raid is no substitute for a backup.
for OS Drives (if it's not a vm server) you can sometimes use raid 0 (no mirroring, just for speed) if there is little configruation or issues if just the os is lost (baremetal restore, imaging etc can take care of that) but I generally shy away from they approach. and just use RAID 1 for OS Drives.

You will need to backup or image your server, then add a disk and create RAID 1, then restore it image back. Mirroring (RAID) needs to be done at the time of physically prepping the server before installing the OS.
I'm guessing that you lack RAID controllers in these servers though.

Yes you are right. -
That would be the first step. You should do two things at once here. Get hardware RAID and virtualize. Might as well do it in one step.

Thank you for the suggestion. I need to read and explore before i present this to our manager. I just told them this morning how important this things to set up right away.
Honestly i haven't tried doing this before in real server (Production server) .

Don't these servers have RAID 1 (10) built in?
What is your configuration right now? Do you only have one disk in each server? If you have more than one disk in each, do you have a drive letter connected to each drive?

She has no RAID. Her servers are using a single hard drive, like a desktop would.

It's hard to imagine spending money on a server machine and only putting one drive in it. Assuming the company was sold this server by a vendor before she joined them or was involved in IT, It's odd they only SOLD them a single drive.

She is outside of the US. Non-US / EMEA approaches to business and technology are extremely different than ours.

Ill post another question soon. Way to learn moreI've never done it one a production server aside from initial raid setup. If you decide to change the drive setup after the fact, I think I would want at least 2 clone images (just in case) and maybe even a file level backup just to be safe..

=Yes we are outside and still the decision are majority from the "Client/partner of my boss"
Its not really easy as i told @scottalanmiller . -
A lot of smaller economies find companies doing this type of thing quite often.
