This is why I often find my self saving online guides as a PDF and keeping it for me records.
I hate it when a site administrator up and removes something, seemingly out of the blue.
That's the problem i'm sure I booked marked the website and copied the contents into a work doc. But I think over the last 12 months of re-installs (I think at least 3) I've lost them.

You could use a microblog platform. Twitter if you don't mind things being public. Status.net if you want to run your own.

I'll agree that findability is not great. But I'd taken a page from Scott's book and I try to tag all of my opening posts with meaningful tags... this has helped me personally find what I post when I'm looking for it.

For example there is a ton of good information on Linux systems administration here, and the work done with XO and XS is some of the best/clearest I've found so far. But refinding it sucks. If we could have an area of ML where community voted on posts/threads are converted into articles that would be awesome. Maybe I should start a new thread...

I like this idea - though you'll still be stuck using tags for searching since the search is so bad.
Another thought. the original thread where the "article" comes from should be left available, and the article page should not allow comments at all, instead there could be a link back to the original thread for those who want to post.

In many cases, it just requires the OP cleaning up the post with the updated info. The thread itself could stay.
