I feel like I'm overthinking this but I just want to make sure.

I've been asked to find a nice wireless headset for an analog NEC telephone. It has a square RJ in the back labeled "headset". I've never been the one buying headsets for stuff like this before so I want to make sure I do it right without overspending.

I found this Plantronics headset which seems like it would probably work... it's pretty expensive though and I hear Plantronics is kind of a more premium brand for stuff like this.

Are there cheaper wireless headsets out there that are designed to hook right into an analog headset jack, or am I chasing a unicorn here?

PS as I wrote this out, the person who asked me to price this decided to do their own research and sent me a link to some dirt cheap bluetooth headsets. Apparently they forgot that I told them bluetooth wouldn't work with our landlines last week.

Plantronics is premium and for a reason. Their stuff is very good.

There aren't any cheap options that I know of that are good. Plantronics makes awesome products. Jabra also has a line that is about the same thing that we use and are pretty happy with.

I know some call centers use these and really are happy with them : http://www.amazon.com/Plantronics-T10-Corded-Headset-Phone/dp/B00004U8K1/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1435601780&sr=8-3&keywords=plantronics+desk+phone+headset

Fair enough, it does make sense to spend a little more on a wireless headset if it's going to be much more reliable, and I'm just buying one so it won't be a huge investment to "splurge" for quality. I I guess I mainly just want to cover my bases and make sure I didn't miss some hidden gem somewhere since it seems like the existence of bluetooth headsets is making people skeptical of the prices I'm throwing out.

I don't blame them, really - I had no idea wireless headsets for desk phones would be this expensive still until I started researching them.

            Thanks for the feedback!

I happen to have a Jabra Pro Wireless Headset, been good to me thus far. Range is good, and the voice quality is too.

@WingCreative another +1 for plantronics. We had a few dozen of their more expensive units in use for almost a decade in a call center environment with hot desking where they'd be in use for hours on end. Very few broke but we kept a stash of replacement batteries around (cheap ebay junk ones) and replacement foam pieces (because hygiene is important folks.)

Edit: these ones - $$$ but worth it.

Edit2: the staff hated the single ear ones after a day and forced me to return them. Over the head is ugly, messes with your hair but is super duper comfy for an 8h shift.

                  Yea,.. over the head...comfy.

                  "Where is my head set?"
                  Misses call...
twenty minutes later... dang it... on my head the whole time.

Plantronics is good and you pay for quality. It's not like Cisco where you pay for a name. For most analog phones, you need an HL-10, which is the handset lifter if you want to use it. Otherwise, you need to find a phone compatible with an EHS, or electronic hook-switch.

I like the Savi line personally. Best headset for this kind of thing I've ever seen.

Just wondering, are your phones analog or digital? I'm assuming they are VOIP.

Yeah I've looked at wireless headsets too - and sure those bluetooth ones can be cheap, but you'll be replacing them in 6-9 months.. .there's a reason they are cheap.

I only look at Plantronics DECT stuff in an office environment because they simply last forever unless mistreated.

Plantronics is the only way to go, Batteries are the only pieces I've ever really had to replace on those.

We've also had really good luck with Jabra Pro stuff. Any of their lower lines I avoid like the plague, but the Pro stuff is great. As much as I like Plantronics, I would actually rate Jabra Pro higher than Plantronics for functionality and ease of use in an office environment.

Downvote! Then again, I'm the PLT fanboy, so what can I say?
