Okay, so I stumbled upon this little gem as I am contemplating redoing my existing blogger page or creating a brand new blog over the spring / summer using WordPress:

      http://www.instantwp.com/

I downloaded the installer, and thought, "Hey, I wonder if I can install this on DropBox and run it from anywhere I want to toy with WordPress from without having to install it again on every workstation?"

So I installed it to a folder on my DropBox account, and behold, it works and works well. Even updated to the latest WordPress build! And I got to thinking, "Hey, I could turn this into another How-To similar to my KeePass & DropBox tutorial I created last year for a poor man's synced password database."

I'm doing some more testing and capturing a few good quality screenshots. Will link it when I'm done.

If you want to. I don't think that it will be very useful for you. Local on Mint would be better for you.

True, but this isn't meant to host a WordPress page, but have a dev environment that you could make changes or design one, then export the XML and re-import on your actual hosting provider's instance. So for a pure dev setup, this is done in less than a minute or two.

Is this an itch that needs scratched? I've support WP for nearly a decade and never lacked access to it before. Is this a challenge that people have of which I am just not aware?

It's not really about a lack of access, it's more about just having a ready to go dev environment quickly. You leave your live site alone while working with a backup copy in a test environment.

@Bill-Kindle we just run a dev instance side by side on the web server.

How quickly can you have a dev environment setup? The referenced installer is done in about 2 minutes, fully functional and if you use it with dropbox, the dev environment follows you anywhere you can access dropbox. Need another one, just run the instlall again and give it a new folder name. Done.

Five minutes or less and it is persistent and can be used by the while team, shown to approvers, etc.
