So posting here would be the right place... although not so much if you are looking for a new job discretely.

Posting publicly might not be the best if trying to be discrete. But many have connections at their current day job or other jobs they might know about. So sending PM's to others in the industry is a good idea let them help you look. That is how I got my current job @scottalanmiller referred me to the COO at one point in time. He got me in here

How many people here we're able to drink at 18, and then not when the law changed to require you to be 21....

So @Minion-Queen the follow up question is if this is your second go with NTG and you in charge, was the company a bad fit for a time? What caused this to be the second time.

Is the relationship better between NTG and yourself and @art_of_shred now with this second go?

The first time around I needed to take time off to raise my then very young son. We decided to home school so working was not an option for years. When we came back from the mission field @art_of_shred worked for him self and I needed to do something to earn some $$ as well. So Scott let me know about an opening.

The relationship was great before and having @art_of_shred work with/for me is awesome most of the time. Difficult sometimes due to we both can't always take time off at the same time.

So the question most people have to ask them selves when they are looking for that perfect relationship with their employer is a simple one.

Do I see myself growing with <Insert company name here>?

If they don't or see major issues that are deal-breakers (long nights, weekend coverage, uncooperative team members ) or whatever it might be that you have to move on.

Much like you have specifications in your personal life of who you want to be with the same has to be applied in work.

But your employer has to have these same standards, and that you meet or exceed them.

So how do you find out what those standards are, honestly, without already working for a potential employer?

@DustinB3403 Again contacts that already are there or know the prospective employer well.

                              ^ This.

If a friend says "Hey, this company I work for is pretty cool, and they have an IT opening. Why don't you check it out?"

I'd be heavily inclined to check that company out -- even if that friend doesn't work in the IT department.

@Minion-Queen But how often does someone have those contacts with a potential employer?

Every job I've ever had, I've gone in blind, knowing no one at that potential job.

Now maybe that isn't the norm, but for me it is. So if you think of it like a blind date, you're effectively meeting on match.com or some other dating site.

                                          You can smoke....

That is often a slow painful death.... drinking you could immediately kill your self or others if you get behind the wheel...
