If air traffic control at one of Europe's busiest airports still runs on Windows 3.1, surely the antiquated but sturdy operating system is good enough for the rest of us. The Internet Archive must agree, because today it announced that more than 1,000 classic Windows 3.x software titles will run in your browser window.

Can't say I played to many games in 3.1... but it'll be fun to see the 8bit and 16bit graphics on a 4k screen...

"The emulator is open-source; it's actually a Java-based adaptation of DOSBOX that converts Windows runtimes into JavaScript code your browser can understand."

So if they are running Java, why do they need the web browser? Something is fishy there. I think our PC Mag writer missed IT 101 and confused Java and JavaScript.

They didn't even read the article from the Internet Archive, says right in it that DOSBOX is written in JavaScript. The PC Mag author injected the Java bit themselves.

                http://blog.archive.org/2016/02/11/internet-archive-does-windows-hundreds-of-windows-3-1-programs-join-the-collection/

"As always, the emulation for Windows and DOS-based programs comes via EM-DOSBOX, which is a project by Boris Gjenero to port DOSBOX into Javascript; his optimization work has been world-class."

I use the DOS one to play LHX. That was the most awesome game ever at the time.

They have Duke Nukem 2. I haven't played that game since I was a little kid.

DOSBOX does not do them much justice, though it's been years since I last tried to get them to work
