Chrome randomly copying Opera for the heck of it?
-
A week or so ago, not sure when, but Opera updated. Nothing was really different, except the autosuggest / autofill items were now bold. I didn't think much of it, until Chrome updated, suddenly theirs were bold too. What the...? I've tried to find out if there's any discussion from either company regarding this, but I sure can't find it, though I'm not the only person who has noticed.

Opera is now using the chromium core.

I thought that Opera predated Chrome?

It was until Opera 15 that they change to be based on the Chromium layout engine, Opera used to use it own layout engine before.

Presto was the layout engine of the Opera web browser for a decade. It was released on 28 January 2003 in Opera 7, and later used to power the Opera Mini and Opera Mobile browsers. As of Opera 15, the desktop browser uses a Chromium backend, replacing Presto with the Blink layout engine. Presto is a dynamic engine.

That's what I thought. I was using Opera a LONG time before Chrome was around.

I was on it long before even Presto.

I don't think it really matters that they use Chromium core, it doesn't explain such an odd GUI change that went in the opposite direction, and I wasn't the only person who noticed either. If two sites use WordPress and one makes a change to the style of an element, then another does a week later, the fact they both use WordPress really doesn't matter.
