Getting more and more people buying tickets. Can't wait to see who all is coming! Lots of planning to happen over the next month or so.

How close have you been? Upstate NY is a great place. Not good for finding work or taxes, but as a place to see and visit it is amazing. Great food, wine, culture, nature, history, etc.

@scottalanmiller I went to Niagara falls once for like 3 hours... i don't count that. I haven't been on the east side of the US a whole lot... the only place where I have spent some time is in Delaware and Baltimore.

This will be my first journey to the Upstate of NY as well. Does anyone know how many tickets have been sold thus far?

Well, maybe some other time. Would love to attend, but would most probably have to pay that myself. Also, all my vacation days are planned like 6 months ahead.

The Falls are neat but not indicative of UNY in any way as you can imagine. Are you going to book some extra time in the area? We should have a site with some travel info for people looking to do that.

@scottalanmiller I'm flying in that Wednesday for the conference and leaving the following Wednesday. Taking a couple days of vacation to go explore, etc.

It is small right now, like 30 have already sold but with lots of people committed, semi-committed or with their businesses considering it currently. And there are some local groups that are interested as well (I spoke to the big local university that has the country's first dedicated IT college just this morning and they are going to share it with the professors this week.) So the number should grow a lot (like double, I would guess.) I know some people definitely planning on going that haven't bought yet.

The number is definitely small, but that's probably good. This is year one and there is a lot of logistics that need to be ironed out and a huge group would be much more difficult to manage. Although I really hope that we hit one hundred at least.

But a huge goal this year is to produce a good track record and videos of the sessions to show to prospective attendees for next year. It's far more important to be good this first year, than to be big.

What kind of stuff do you want to see? Will you have a rental car in the area? From Rochester it is trivial to reach Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Syracuse and Ithaca areas. Albany and the Hudson Valley as well as Toronto are further afield but reachable.

Cooperstown is a specifically great spot to see.

@scottalanmiller Haven't planned it out... most likely rent a car after the conference, plan on going to some wineries, other than that it is up in the air.

That will be added this week. Visit Rochester, Livingston County and Wyoming County are sending me bunch of information to post.

Ithaca or Watkins Glen are the best places to base out of for the wine district. Or Penn Yan if you do the smallest of the wine lakes.

Cooperstown has the distillery and beer tours. That's east of the Finger Lakes in the Central Leatherstocking Region (yes, named after James Fennimore Cooper's novels... and Cooperstown is named after him.)

Elmira is a nice town if you want to see where Mark Twain lived. But not super exciting.

@scottalanmiller I'll have to add the beer tour to the list.

                                  • Ommegang is in Cooperstown
                                  • Saranac is near Utica
                                  • Ithaca is... well near Ithaca
                                  • Genesee (makes of Labatts, Genesee and they often brew Sam Adams) is literally walking distance from the conference site in Rochester - 6th largest brewer in America, I believe.
                                  • Utica Club is in Utica
                                  • Empire Brewery is in Syracuse but they at least used to have a branch in Rochester by the conference center
                                  • The Old Toad is their own microbrewery and is a long walk from the conference center on Alexander St. and is well worth a stop if you like authentic pubs.

Tons of microbreweries all over the state. Those are just the big ones. Even down around the corner from the NTG HQ in the country is a new micro that just opened run by one of my classmates.

It's not nearly Colorado level here, but microbrews are quite popular.
