    • RE: AD best practices

Are the computers dependant of AD for any other services? I would just move out of Windows and move to Linux in this case.

I would really recommend to have two DCs if you are using Microsoft Active Directory, and move the file server as you note to a separate machine.

The DHCP server can stay on a DC an it will help to integrate with DNS internally.

Just finished installing all Tvs, firewall, switches, Ubiquiti AP, beds, outlet covers and replaced light switches at the house and brought lots of boxes. Now I am catching up a little.

about that. Like I said, this was a spare one I had on hand for testing and I wanted to make sure I could get the tunnel up when I factory reset the one under support since I can't log in to see its settings.

Make a backup also of the settings as well just in case.

Since I am also involved in a church there is also an involvement in politics and a group of people trying to control everything to their benefits.

I simply refuse to participate in that type of politics -- especially in religious organizations.

Me too, that is why I stopped offering my services although they know very well that when things hit the fan they call me. I explain to them that I had already noted this months and years ago.

Sales goon, I think. Let's see what they push at the end of the day.

With the "Budget is $25k" requirements he has, nothing will get done for what he wants!

    • RE: Understand CMD CLI to Powershell Variable

@gjacobse So basically you want to iterate through a list of computers the same script correct? So do you have a list of computers? What are other steps on your script? because what we can do is the following

      *$computers = import-csv -Path "c:\script\computers.csv" foreach ($oldname in $computers){ Rename-Computer -NewName $newname -DomainCredential domain\admin -Restart}

This assumes you have a CSV file with a oldname and new name columns with computer names.

I put several times in there that the study was false. I put a long technical explanantion of it. Talked about what he actually studied, what we were actually talking about, etc. It was all there.

YOu can quote here on the moderation email what you posted and so you have documentation here 🙂

    • RE: Distro Selection for OSSEC

@networknerd I am monitoring all ny network equipment which is about 30 devices (including firewalls, switches and backu appliances). 10 servers amd workstations (150). The system does do a log collection and has an APi for common threats that are alerted.

Yes, the webcast was a pain so i just downloaded the iso only and worked my way. This was another suggestion but by all means OSSIM uses the OSSEC agent so you could go with OSSEC all the way.

First one of these I've listened to/watched. I kind of wish you would do an audio version of these with an RSS feed so my podcast app could download them. Shouldn't be too hard other then the hosting aspect of it.

I converted to MP3 you can get it from my Dropbox

      Prometheus

I think any tool that can handle it would be of use.

If it's graphical and can do the job so be it. If it is a table and can do the job so be it.

I've tried suggesting and using Comodo ONE in this use case and I don't think it's up to the task for the job. It can monitor, and notify sure. But a visualization I'm not 100% sure about.

Same could be said about Spiceworks.

I would recommend Zabbix. And other options below:
