    • MS Drops Surface RT

It looks like Microsoft finally dropped the Surface RT, quietly. It is the only Surface model that did not receive a firmware update. Microsoft mentioned they were going to drop one of the 3 Windows 8 Versions a few months ago. Everyone expected it was going to be Windows 8 RT, but this pretty much confirms it.

    • So it begins...

My journey starts today. I have to go through this entire process to get my ECSA v9.

      Step 1: Eligibility Criteria:

      1. One can qualify to attempt the exam either via training or via applying for eligibility.
      2. Candidates coming through the training mode need to complete the 40 hours/ 5 days training via an authorised training channel (classroom/ i-class/ i-learn).
      3. Candidates coming through the self-study mode need to apply for eligibility and fulfil the eligibility criteria in order to quality.
      4. All candidates must use official ECSAv9 courseware and i-Labs (except in the case foe Eligibility candidates, they will only purchase ADC, Exam Code, Ilabs)
      5. For self-study students (those that purchase courseware through our online store), they will have to apply for eligibility before they are provided a new set of i-Labs. If they
pass our eligibility requirements, and upon submitting an acceptable ECSA report through ASPEN, ASPEN will release the exam voucher to the candidate automatically.
      6. For those who come through the i-Learn mode, as i-videos are provided, these students are deemed to have completed official training, hence no eligibility is required.

      Step 2: Study Material:

      1. Candidates interested in attempting the ECSAv9 exam will need to purchase official learning material irrespective of the mode of training (except for Eligibility Students, refer
        to point 1.4 above)
      2. Training students will receive their study kit (consisting of courseware (physical/ digital), eval code, i-Labs Code, Aspen dashboard access code, and a guide) from the training
centre. They will use the courseware/ ilabs access to complete their classroom training sessions.
      3. Self-study candidates (those who purchase courseware from our online store) can buy the study kit (consisting of courseware (physical/ digital), eval code, i-lab access codes
      4. If these self-study students are to proceed with exams, they will now have to proceed with Eligibility process first. If they meet the eligibility requirements, they will now buy
ilabs and Aspen dashboard voucher code as a bundle. The exam voucher is pegged to the Aspen dashboard access code.

      Step 3: Report writing:

      1. The report writing is a mandatory requirement that qualifies the candidate for the final multiple choice exam. This step will require the student to demonstrate the
knowledge and skill acquired through the study material (inclusive of the labs) via submission of a detailed report.
      2. The student/ candidate upon activating their i-Labs, will automatically start a counter for 60 days.
      3. The dashboard holds the report format/ questions that need to be submitted within this 60 days window period.
      4. The “Submit/ Download” report option will no longer be available upon expiry of 60 days from the time i-Labs is activated.
        a. Courseware
        b. Eval code (printed in the courseware)
        c. I-Labs Code (supplied separately to Students via Aspen upon activation of the ADC), valid for 60 days, if not activated this is valid for 12 months from date of issue.
        d. Aspen Dashboard Access Code (supplied separately to ATCs on purchase of courseware), valid for 60 days upon activation of. Before Activation, Aspen Dashboard
Access Code is valid for 12 months from date of issue.
        e. Exam voucher is valid for 12 months from the date of issue from ASPEN. IF a student fails the report submission stage, they are expected to purchase a new block of
Aspen Dashboard Access Code and i-Labs Code (again valid for 60 days upon activation). These come bundled with a new exam voucher valid for one year.

      Step 4: Report Assessment:

      1. The report will be assessed within 7 working days of submission and the student/ candidate will be notified of the same via an ASPEN email to the candidates email.
      2. There are different status reports within the Aspen Dashboard
        a. Activated – means 60 days tracking has commenced
        b. Submitted – means report was submitted before the 60 days’ timeline
        c. Expired – means no report was submitted within the 60 days’ timeline
        d. Results:
        i. Approved – Exam voucher will be automatically sent to students
ii. Rejected – Exam voucher will not be sent, student will be told to purchase a new 60 days block (New ADC, exam voucher, ilabs Code)
      3. If the report is approved the student/ candidate will receive the multiple choice exam voucher for ECC exam centre with a validity for 1 year along with the exam/proctorU
        guide
      4. The student/candidate will be required to follow the instructions in the exam guide and schedule his/her exam online

Step 5: Multiple choice final exam:

      1. The student/candidate will require to log into the exam system with the help of the virtual proctor on the scheduled date and attempt the 4 hours / 150 multiple choice
questions, with a passing score of 70%.
      2. The student can download the score transcript on completion of the exam and will receive his/her digital certificate on Aspen if the exam attempt was successful within 10
days. (Physical welcome kits will be sent out to ATC students)
      3. In case the student/ candidate fail the test, one can purchase an exam voucher at a retake discounted rate from the training centre or the EC-Council online store depending
        on the mode of eligibility.

      What is the latest?

I completed 10 out of 11 Capture the flag style challenges. I am still battling the last one, but I have completed enough to pass already.

Congrats! How long did it take you to get to the point of passing total?

I don't know. I Have been working on it for 12 days or so and put ALOT of hours into it.

      Well, you were rewarded man!

I still have write my penetration testing report and after I turn that in, they will let me take the 150 question test.

That's a lot of work, but you'll get there. Moderate steps every day.

It could have easily took 30 days to do the pen test. I just put in all day and some evenings into it. When you have a timer against you, you want to make sure your back isn't against the wall.

    • RE: OwnCloud or NextCloud etc?

Instead of doing an upgrade, I decided to do a migration. I spun up a nextcloud instance next to my owncloud instance and migrated everything over.

I was able to migrate all my images and CSS edits easily. I only had to make a few minor tweaks as some of the formatting and colors are slightly different.

So I arrived in Texas by plane on November 6, 2013. After 447 days of being in Texas, today I officially leave. I am moving back to New York and to my hometown area. No, I am not moving back in with my family. As it stands, I'm likely going to go back to work at Staples as I re-evaluate my career and life. I was happier at that job than any other job, and although it's far from glamorous, it's a good way to get myself restabilized. Texas has been a rollercoaster unlike anything I could have imagined, for many reasons that I won't get into.

At the moment, I'm looking at opportunities, including waiting on a call back from StorageCraft. We'll see what happens. However, if that doesn't work out, I will be most likely going back to Staples. I do have another opportunity at a Cisco-based shop (fastest growing company in NYS) called Shoregroup where a friend of mine works. It's about the same pay as Staples and I've never enjoyed Cisco work either time I've studied it. I figure I'll go back to Staples and then fall back on Shoregroup if I just can't do it.

Texas has been fun to a degree, and I'm going to miss hanging with @PSX_Defector and @NetworkNerd. Spiceworld is gonna be a bigger hassle now, as I'll have to fly again to attend the event, but oh well. I've learned a lot about myself and life in general the past 15 months, and I look forward to a new chapter in my life back in New York. Thanks to all you Fruit Tarts who have helped me along the way and continue to do so!

      Thanks,
      A.J.

Well if you need someone to fly to Spiceworld with I generally try to fly out of Syracuse or Wilkes Barre. Good luck with the re-evaluation I know from experience that it can be especially hard.

That would be awesome! My cell is 315-715-8959. Text me and I'll have your number that way too. 🙂 It'd be nice not to fly alone!

Lenovo is doing well selling to people who can't remember the biggest news in IT security ever, even thought it is recent, and that is far worse. So I imagine that the average shop will just ignore the security problems here and keep giving them money.

True, but the browser folks (Mozilla, Google, Apple & Msft) will have more influence on whether or not they stay alive.
What can they do if no browser's will trust their certs?

      Maybe, we will see.

Only 2 browsers are not trusting them right now though. Here is the image I posted above.

      Source: https://help.nextcloud.com/t/anyone-tried-onlyoffice-document-server/4087/11

It looks like there is a workaround:

i changed the max-version in .../Nextcloud/apps/onlyoffice/appinfo/info.xml like this:

      <owncloud min-version="9.0" max-version="11.1" />

that make it able to install

everything work ... instead of saving
if i reopen the file i see my changes ... but if i download it there is no change
      crazy 😦

--> i make my document server reachable from outside (ssl - lets encrypt)
and after editing a document the callback seems to work
