During the Old Republic timeline the Mandalorians were enemies of the Jedi were they not?

Oh boy, testing me memory here. I feel like they weren't concerned with each other.

In KOTOR (can't speak to the comics) there were some Mandalorian freelancers that you had to fight, but no direct conflict between the Jedi and the planet/government of Mandalore.

This is more about books than movies for me, but one of my greatest regrets with good books is that I can never again read them for the first time. There is something in the flavor of the story that is lost in the knowing. For me. My wife prefers to read the last chapter if things get at all tense.

    • RE: Handling Downvotes

Here is how I use votes in general:
Upvote = I agree or I see your post and acknowledge it, but it doesn't necessitate me typing a full post to reply
Downvote = I disagree with what you said, but I don't want to invest the time arguing with you (for a variety of reasons)

It might change how/when I use downvoting initially if it is public. I don't do it often, but anonymity makes it too easy. It probably would change how I use it because if it is public it would give the downvotee the visibility to challenge me for negatively responding without feedback. I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing.

What is this radio that you all listen to?

LOL - only in the car - and less than 50% of the time, because most of the time it's podcasts.

Yeah, ever since I got a bluetooth adapter for my car I don't use the radio at all. Podcasts, audiobooks, Spotify, etc.

Really enjoyed The Mandalorian. Nice to see such a high quality show. I wasn't going to watch it but my friend convinced me to.

The first episode was pretty good - but I was super sad to see a filler episode for number 2 - it didn't do anything for the storyline that I can tell. Sure it still looked good - showed that this Mando can basically be hit by a Rhino and amazingly somehow not die, etc.

I suppose we learned one thing - when the Mando was saved.. but really - who didn't see that coming?

Yeah I think there is some merit there. It gave us more of an understanding of his personality though and how he works through things. It was nice to see that he isn't good at everything too.

I'm curious if they'll do any real work developing him in regards to the really dumb choices he made. I am hopeful that this series will be more like Rogue One in story telling and less like TLJ. But only hopeful.

Mind you I've only watched it once.. what dumb choices you talking about?

Like leaving his shuttle where Jawa's could get it, etc?

That was one. Another was going into an obvious lair with no care for stealth or proper preparation (loosening a knife in its sheath is not proper preparation). Using violence as the answer for every situation.

Disney+ fans without answers after thousands hacked

      Disney's system is definitely broken.

they claim that one account accesses all Disney stuff - but that clearly is not true.

I just tried to log into disney.com and shopdisney.com and my disneyplus.com account didn't work there - in fact it sent me a password reset email because possible compromise.

      Get your shit together Disney!

It seems as there is no (so far) evidence of a Disney+ hack.

What I got out of it is lots of account credentials stolen from other previously hacked websites and services that now work to log in to Disney+ due to people using the same username and password across different websites and services.

This is the best part about the "We recorded you on your webcam" scam emails. I know what past passwords and emails have been breached completely.

Since the spoilers I care most about are in book series I don't really have this problem.

I was just talking to some vendors about this at a conference recently (yesterday). One of the ones that really caught my eye was TopDesk. I don't know if they support on-premises deployment or not, but I think the others might check the right boxes. I have no idea on pricing, but I believe they were the ones that do their licensing based on FTE count (due to having a broader focus than just ITSM).

Not one that I've heard of before.

There were quite a few that were there that I'd not heard of. This my first interaction with them. They've been around for quite awhile. It may be that they're more well known in the European market since they're based in the Netherlands.

Their back end for the hosted system is written in Dutch but they do provide some kind of translation ($Dutch_word = $English_word) so you can poke about. Also, they (TopDesk) must do the software upgrades (logging in remotely and doing the work). Not your team.

They also now have a SaaS version but that's not one of the OP's requirements we couldnn't get away fast enough.

      (I inherited workig with it).

@nadnerB Are these issues that linger with the current version, or not? It would definitely remove them from the running if they persist.

From what I've seen of the new version, it's just an upgrade to what we had. They don't appear to have made any drastic changes, just GUI, and maybe a few "catch up features"... cue the Jurassic Park Effect thoughts.

      Points of note:

      • Their customer portal is locked away, so you have to be a customer first before seeing anything in their walled off community.
      • No backgrond automations
      • Ticket visibility was a huge issue
      • Lacked basic functions of modern helpdesks

The good things of the on-premesis install

      • We had unlimited agents
      • Can be set up for multiple departments (which we had but that department bailed and followed us to FreshService)

I found that there was a specific way of thinking to operate it and there was little flexibility (one way to do things), settings were buried and difficult to find. Granted our setup had been poorly managed for years but the sales guy couldn't convince us that there had been dramatic changes since the last upgrade (several years), or that they could meet all our "Have to have's"/Deal breakers

      Good feedback. Thanks.

My machine is a Latitude 7390. I get sufficient battery life that I don't typically have issues (unless it doesn't go to sleep properly when I put it in my backpack). I run dual 24" monitors off of the WD15 dock. It has a nice section on the left side where you can magnetize the Dell stylus to it and not have to deal with a cord. The screen is responsive enough to touch/stylus that I do a high percentage of my meeting note taking with the stylus. I don't really have any complaints. I wouldn't want to do any heavy lifting with it, but it meets my needs as a people manager (don't do much technical these days).

Without more experience or information it is difficult to draw an exact conclusion, but have you considered that he is on the autism spectrum? Some of the things that you're listing could be indicators of that. There are significant differences to how you will work with someone on the spectrum vs someone who just has control issues.

    • RE: How do you get your departments to quantify what they actually need for their jobs

In a similar vein as what @Pete-S is saying, they need to have IT's involvement in their needs analysis. Often times people throw out numbers that appear unreasonable to us because they are just guessing. They don't actually know, but they do know that they don't want to run out. So, they create a best estimate based on the limits of their knowledge which results in a guess. The three approaches are deny, approve, and engage.

This is where business analysis comes into play. Unfortunately this is a skill set that most SMBs are unwilling to pay for.

I don't know where your team is at in terms of capacity and skill set, so that will determine which of the three options that you select (with shading between the options of course).
